"East of the castle. On the other side of town." Aerith murmured it a few more times to herself as she packed up her journal, a blanket and some picnic-esque food and headed to Leon's location. Normally, on beautiful days like this, she would take her time with her walk, but today was a little bit different. She wasn't sure what was causing her to want to act with such spontaneity, but she wasn't going to stop herself now. She held the basket of items close to her chest as she continued to run, eventually spotting him sitting atop of the hill. Smiling brightly and slowing down to a brisk walk, she made her way up the hill. He looked deep in thought... Well, more so than usual. Dropping the basket and watching it tumble down the hill, she realized that her cover was now blown.

So she did what anyone else would do when they realized something of the sort and ran to him with the full intention of tackling him to the ground.

It was nice out. Not in that gorgeous kind of way - he wouldn't really call it that - and not in a rare kind of way, because Paradisa had this kind of weather often. But, still. It was nice. He was sitting down in the grass, legs stretched out before him and leaning back on his elbows. Soaking in the sun, but not really feeling it. He and Cloud had come here often, the one that had lost his Light. This one had only lost part of his sight - it was weird, different. There was a lot of things they had gone through that Cloud wouldn't remember now.

It was -

The sound of something hitting the ground made the thought process stop, and he raised an eyebrow at the basket that was tumbling its way back down the hill. He then raised his eyes towards the bundle of pink - and the realization that he was being run at came too late, after he already had flower girl against him and was falling back. The steep hill - usually muddy, now fresh and green - couldn't keep his balance, so they were rolling down, down to the bottom with the basket, and Leon knocked the back of his head against the ground.

"... Ow."

Okay, the hill was far steeper than she had given it credit for. And before she knew it, she wished that she had taken back her tackling attempt because down and down they went. She landed on top of him, trying to stop herself from breaking out into a fit of giggles. Offering a sheepish grin, she brushed away the hair from his face, tilting her head a bit, "Are you all right? Can... I help?" She giggled some as she shifted in an way that she thought would make them a little more comfortable. There was some hesitation in her movements to get up as she looked down at him, noticing the unopened basket out of the corner of her eye.

"I brought us some lunch," she said, clearly stating that she had chosen what they were going to do. It was far too nice of a day to spend it indoors and so why not have a picnic? The spot was really almost breathtaking. Even though she couldn't tell the color of the grass beneath them, she could feel that it was lush and healthy. It was one of the things that she loved about this place, the constant beauty. She knew that it probably wasn't like this all the time, but she would take full advantage of it all for as long as she could.

Focusing her attention back onto Leon, she smiled at him again. "Are you hungry," she asked as she leaned down and poked him in the stomach and before she knew it, her face was almost too close to his and gently gave him a quick kiss. Freezing for a few seconds, she pulled back and moved away from him, reaching for the basket.

Leon's hands had landed on her hips so that she wouldn't have fallen away from him during their tumble and ended up knocking into her. They released her almost immediately as soon as he had regained himself, though his fingertips brushed against the fabric of her dress. "I saw that," he grunted - why wasn't she getting off yet? - turning his head to look at the basket briefly then looking back up at her.

"Sort-" He stilled when her lips brushed almost randomly against his own, fingertips increasing their pressure against her hips and then resting against the grass when she moved away. "-... of."

... Okay.

The lost sense of security threw Aerith for a moment and she rummaged through the basket, pulling out the food and drink for the both of them. She felt her cheeks, and probably her entire face, flush deeply. What had gotten into her? If he questioned her, she could always blame the castle, right?

... even though that would be a lie. She knew better not to lie, so if he did ask... Well, she'd come to that if it came to that.

She exhaled a shaky breath and pushed his portion over. "I made sandwiches. They're good. So," she laughed a bit nervously, "Eat up?" She kept her eyes down at the ground, but offered a smile to him if he was looking her direction as she unwrapped her sandwich, not quite yet eating it.

"Thanks," Leon said at length, sitting up and pulling his legs towards himself so he could sit better. He unwrapped his own sandwich, taking a sip of the drink - lemonade, he winced, it was too sweet - and then a bite out of the food. "It's good."

Aerith stared out straight ahead. So, they'd pretend it didn't happen. That was all right. Better than him getting angry and leaving. She picked at the bread of her sandwich, still not eating. It seemed that Leon was liking it... for the most part. She felt relieved as she had rushed to get everything ready.

"I'm glad you like it," she said after a long silence. "Cookies for dessert."

Leon... didn't really like cookies. But, "Okay." He'd finished half of his sandwich, setting the rest down before glancing at Aerith. She wasn't eating. Because of what happened? Maybe. ... She started it, though.

There was a long pause before Leon took Aerith's sandwich away from her, placing it by his own.

"I didn't have time for anything else," Aerith replied with a small laugh. She would have made a cake or a pie or something. Maybe she should have asked the ghosts. She frowned quickly, but easily covered it with a smile.

Still not looking up, she jumped a bit when Leon took her sandwich. Finally looking up at him, "What is it," she asked, only genuine concern showing on her face.

She'd started it. All the time, it was more her than him. He guessed he could finish it. She wouldn't remember the time she had been here before - and after the Ganados attack... He'd been worried. He'd thought she'd died, and there had been no way to really tell. He could make it up to her, if he wanted to - and, well, he did. It wasn't like Zack's world's Aerith versus his own - the one sitting in front of him was his own. There was nothing to worry about, was there?

He didn't answer, but instead carefully taking a hold of her chin and pressing his lips a little awkwardly against hers.

...was Leon kissing her? Aerith couldn't breathe. Or she had forgotten how. Maybe a little of both. If she had been standing, she probably would have collapsed from her knees going weak. Her eyes briefly widened and she eventually closed them, kissing him back carefully. The hesitation returned, but it wasn't nearly as prominent as before.

She didn't know what to do with her hands or her body, but she carefully rested a hand on Leon's side, leaning more into the kiss. Was this okay? Was it not? She still wasn't breathing and she felt her heart almost pounding out of her chest.

He let it continue like that for a little bit - not pressing further, just... simple. It was nice, like the weather. Not a constant thing, but nice while he had it. Her hand was warm against the thin fabric of his shirt. Leon pulled back, the corner of his lip twitching ever so slightly.

"Your lemonade is too sweet."

Aerith breathed. She laughed and breathed. The lemonade was too sweet. She opened her mouth to speak, but only the false starts of sentences came out. "I.. It.. I.." She laughed a bit more, smiling shyly, shaking her head a bit.

After a few moments, she finally was breathing normally. "I'll try to remember that for next time." She paused and quickly added with a wink, "You never were a fan of sweet things, I know."

Well, maybe one sweet thing. Aerith's lips tasted kind of sweet from the lemonade, and the combination made it bearable but... Yeah. "Right."

It was okay. Things were okay. Aerith smiled brightly and grabbed Leon's hand with her own, squeezing a bit. She reached into the picnic basket and pulled out a cookie. Keeping it in her hand, she looked over to him, "Hey Leon?"

And when he opened his mouth to respond, she went to shove the cookie into his mouth, the grin not leaving her face.

The melting, gooey chocolate in the cookie reached his tongue, and he made a brief face. Chocolate. He used his hand to break off the rest of the cookie from what remained in his mouth, chewing slowly and swallowing thickly. "Ugh," he grunted.

He then immediately returned the favor.

"Good, h--" And before she could get out the 'huh,' Aerith could taste the familiar taste of chocolate and dough and maybe she added too many chocolate chips to this batch of cookies. She'd have to remember that for next time too.

Covering her mouth to chew as she spoke, she laughed and spoke as she chewed. "Good, huh," she finally managed to get out.

"For you," he grumbled, returning to the rest of his sandwich to wash down the sweetness of the desert. The lemonade helped a little bit in that it was sour enough to overcome the cookie, but still. He wasn't really that angry, of course. Not really.

It was strange, going back to her sandwich after eating the cookie. But who said you couldn't have dessert before dinner anyway? They were grown adults. "You're too kind," she replied with a small smirk, taking a bite of her sandwich. She knew that he wasn't angry and she was so happy and so relieved.

She leaned back and sighed happily. It was the happiest she had felt in a long time. Life, for the first time in Paradisa, was good.
