Eighteen… It didn't feel any different than seventeen. Was it supposed to? Why were birthdays such a big deal? It was just an excuse for a party and presents-and he cared little for both of those things. At least that's what he told himself as he eyed Selphie's entry.
It was only a slightly weird with her; mostly because it was what he expected. But when Seifer got involved, that's when it got really strange. What did Seifer care? Squall didn't remember their history and he thought that Seifer didn't really like him. So what was the deal? Was it really Selphie's influence? They did seem to get along pretty well…
And what about Rinoa? He shouldn't care about that. But…
From his place in Squall's lap, Patch whined and wiggled in his sleep.
"Nightmares?" Squall rested a hand on the puppy's back, slightly ruffling the fur with his fingers then glanced at the clock. Maybe I'll turn in early. If he went out and wandered-No, he'd be an earlier target sitting here. But if he was asleep…
Whatever. Neither of them will really do anything and I don't want them to, anyway. He shut the journal and stood, gently cradling Patch in his arms; the puppy gurgled and snuggled closer. Almost smiling, he said, "Bed? Okay." They can just deal with it if they have plans.
