Log: How far would you go? [Tatsuki and Ravi]

Apr 28, 2007 22:47

Who: Tatsuki and Ravi.
What: Tatsuki goes to see Ravi after a conversation between her and Kanda.
When: After this.
Where: Ravi's room, 211.
Rating: PG-13?

For a few minutes after asking Ravi if she could come see him, Tatsuki just ... sat there, jotting off a few replies to Roxas without really thinking about it. She felt... she didn't know how she felt. It was with an effort she finally made herself get up and leave her room, tucking her journal into her waistband as she went.

Kanda... why? Why her? Why not ... someone else. She didn't understand. Was he... trusting her, with something like this? And all the freaking QUESTIONS! Just...

Several times on her way down Tatsuki just stopped, losing herself in thought before she shook it off and continued down. (The stairs seemed to be normal again, which was a bonus. That or she'd taken the normal stairs - didn't much matter.)

Would you die for him?

Giving her head a quick shake, Tatsuki knocked on Ravi's door.

Something was up with Tatsuki, from the sound of it. Ravi wondered if she was going to go into any more detail than that about whatever it was that was bugging her.

Aside from that, though, he probably had to figure out some way to come clean to Kanda about the whole Eliade thing after all, even if he'd thought leaving out the part where he'd ended up getting kissed by a freaking Akuma (one that was still trying to come up with ways to kill exorcists even if she couldn't transform, no doubt) wasn't going to be that big a deal, seeing as it had happened a couple of weeks ago and didn't change the fact that she was still running around somewhere, either way.

Ravi glanced up when he heard the knock on the door. It was unlocked and he'd told Tatsuki that - maybe it was someone else. Making his way over to the door, he pulled it open. He offered Tatsuki a grin when he saw that it was her after all. "You planning to come in?" he asked, stepping out of the way to let her do just that if she wanted to.

Tatsuki knew he'd unlocked the door, yeah, but it felt a little weird to just... walk in. Or maybe she wasn't really sure she wanted to face him just yet.

The way her stomach tied itself in sixteen knots when she actually saw him, and he smiled - that was enough to make her take a step back, initially. No - she wasn't really sure at all.

Do you love him?

If Tatsuki ever saw Kanda again after this, she was going to punch him. Very hard.

Tatsuki forced herself to take a breath and calm down. This was all so retarded, but she didn't... ugh. "Yeah," she muttered, moving past him into the room. Last time she'd been here... well. Kanda had referenced that, too. More than anything, Tatsuki wanted to hit something. Not a person (besides Kanda), just... something, anything, to just... make this feeling, whatever it was, go away. She tried to say something, but... drew a blank, despite her best efforts, and remained quiet.

Ravi shut the door once Tatsuki had stepped into the room. Turning around to look at her, he watched her curiously. "Something wrong?" he asked, deciding to offer some kind of prompting for more information after all - well, if she felt like taking it and answering. It wasn't like he could make her talk if she didn't want to, so if she just wanted to drop by for a visit, that wasn't a bad thing, either.

But, whenever somebody asked the 'can I see you?' question, that seemed to imply that there was more to it than just that. At least, the last time he'd been asked the same question, it had turned into Kanda mentioning some pretty important stuff. Unfortunately, that hadn't turned out so great. Ravi didn't think there would be a repeat of that here, though. (Not that that time had been intentional, either.)

He waited to see if Tatsuki was going to say anything. She seemed kind of subdued, but as far as he knew, whatever could be behind that wasn't something he had any idea about.

Something wrong? Tatsuki almost laughed. What a question. Especially coming from him, right now. She had no idea how to answer. She just couldn't get that one question out of her head. It wasn't like she was in love with him, not at all. But... but... god, had Kanda needed to be so forceful about it?!

Then again, considering just what exactly he'd made her promise...

Tatsuki looked at Ravi, felt her stomach tie itself up in a dozen more knots, opened her mouth to say something ... and just closed it again with a short sigh. "Sorry," she said finally, her voice quiet. She gave him a small smile that was mostly uncertain and maybe a little bit forced, but at least it was there. "I think... I might need a little more time to process... uh, what just happened. Do you mind if I hang out here, though...?"

Ravi raised his eyebrows at Tatsuki's reply. Even if he wasn't going to press for answers or anything like that, hearing that made whatever was going on sound like it could be pretty big or serious. Still, as long as she was okay - and he could see for himself that she looked like it, at least - that was the main thing. Besides, if it was something she wanted to talk to him about, she'd do it herself, right?

"Well, you've been here before and it's not like I got anything to hide in here," he replied, grinning at Tatsuki. "So, make yourself at home."

Ravi headed over to his bed, where his journal was sitting. Right, figure out a way to tell Kanda the whole thing... He was pretty sure that Kanda couldn't have missed all of it anyway, but Allen had a point.

She shrugged at his raised eyebrows. Really, all things considered? She thought she was handling this pretty well. It was true - she was going to need a lot of time to process what had just happened. It might never really make sense. But in the short term, at least, she could try to sort herself out enough to at least give Ravi some sort of explanation. He had to be wondering.

She ended up plopping herself down on the end of his bed, casting a look back over her shoulder to watch him. Internally, she winced - was he going to try and contact Kanda, at all? Not that she had any idea, but she couldn't help the twinge of paranoia. Why she was paranoid, even...

Tatsuki blew out another breath and leaned back on her hands. For a while, she was just quiet, staring at the ceiling, silently drumming her fingers. Then she just let herself fall back, her arms flung out wide, and turned her head to look at Ravi again. "Ravi? How long have you known Kanda?" It was a weird way to start, but it was something.

Ravi took a seat next to Tatsuki, reaching for the journal and flipping it back open. Before he did anything else with it, though, he glanced over at Tatsuki again instead. Maybe she'd have some kind of suggestion... On the other hand, this was his mess to straighten out. Plus, considering that she already had other things to deal with herself, that had to be more than enough on her plate.

It was quiet for a few moments and Ravi sat back, opening his mouth to say something else.

Tatsuki's sudden question took him by surprise. Kanda? Asking about him seemed kind of out of the blue right now - at least if Tatsuki wasn't secretly a mindreader. Ravi gave her a curious look, then shrugged and smiled. Most of the time, whenever anybody had asked him anything along those lines, he'd told them that he and Kanda went 'way back'. Just how far back was something he couldn't remember, though. Maybe they hadn't even known each other all their lives or anything like that, though Rinali had mentioned that they had known each other for a pretty long time. Longer than he'd known Allen, in comparison, anyway.

"Allen said me and Yuu were good friends, so I'm guessing we've known each other for a while," Ravi replied. "But if you wanna know how long I've known Yuu myself, I probably gotta say a couple months. We got here before Christmas, so that's about five months now." He gave Tatsuki a grin.

The memories he'd made in that time were his own memories of Kanda here, after all, not ones where other people had to fill in the blanks.

Tatsuki was too lost in her little world of thought to notice Ravi's glance. Normally Tatsuki wasn't a deep thought kind of person - she took things as they came. But when things had started to get more intense at home, she hadn't been able to help thinking about it all... and now, this was a whole different ballgame. While this sort of thing wasn't Tatsuki's style, she knew she had to get all of this sorted out in her head, ASAP. Not just for her sake, but for Ravi's - she didn't want to confuse him, but she didn't want to tell him exactly what Kanda had made her promise, either. That was going to stay between her and Kanda, if she could help it.

"'Good friends', huh?" she echoed, a small smile tugging at one corner of her mouth. Man, Kanda was SUCH a freaking liar. Even though he hadn't lied, exactly - just dodged that particular question. Still, it made Tatsuki even more why he was choosing to do this. But when Ravi gave her a grin, she gave him a blink and a slightly crooked smile in return. It wasn't like any of this was his fault - at least, not directly. There were still things she wanted to ask, though... but she was treading a fine line and he'd definitely get the hint something big was up if she was too direct about it. Which sucked, because Tatsuki usually preferred to be direct.

"How the hell do you put up with him?" she ended up asking. Which wasn't quite what she'd wanted to ask in the first place - something closer would have had the word 'why' instead of 'how' - but considering? It WAS something she was genuinely wondering.

Ravi chuckled, placing one of his hands behind his head. "Well, according to Allen, yeah," he said. It probably didn't look like he and Kanda were good friends - or friends at all - sometimes, huh? But maybe it worked out fine that way. Kanda didn't want friends and he was supposed to remember that it was going to get complicated if he had friends, so it should have been a great combination, right?

Tatsuki's second question was another surprising one. Ravi lowered his hand, drawing one of his legs up onto the bed and placing his arm on top of his knee. "Years of practice," he replied jokingly. "Maybe we got some kinda deal where I do that, while Yuu doesn't kill me."

He shrugged again and smiled. "Yuu's not a bad guy. He just likes doing things his own way."

Tatsuki laughed a little at his reply. Yeah, it seemed like learning to deal with someone like Kanda would take a while. "Sounds like a trade to me," she said with a grin of her own.

But his second comment made her pause. Do things his own way, huh? What happened when other people were involved, though? There wasn't room for anyone else? That was such bullshit. But maybe - MAYBE - she had to give him some credit. He'd said he wouldn't expect someone like her to understand - and she was finally starting to realize she didn't, really. She'd already decided Kanda had warped ways of caring. Maybe this whole thing was just... another, in some weird, Kanda-ish way?

"Ravi?" she asked quietly. She knew this was going out on a limb, but... "How far would you go?" Sitting up, she glanced at him. "To protect someone you cared about."

Now Ravi had to admit that he was really starting to wonder what had brought all this on. He sat up, studying Tatsuki's expression for a moment. That kind of question was hard to answer.

Or maybe it wasn't that hard to answer. Not if he replaced 'someone you cared about' with a list of actual names. Besides, Tatsuki was pretty smart.

"Me?" Ravi looked at the ceiling. "As far as I'd have to go to make sure they're gonna be okay," he replied. At least, if nothing was getting in his way, trying to stop him, then there wouldn't be anything to stop him from doing whatever he could, if it came to that.

Glancing back at Tatsuki, he asked, "What's going on, Tatsuki?"

Tatsuki drew her knees up to her chest and wrapped her arms around them, propping her chin on top. For a moment she just sat quietly, thinking of how to reply. She almost smiled. His answer was pretty similar to what hers had been, at first. Whatever it took.

She gestured vaguely in response to his last question. "Nothing," she said, giving him a little smile. "I'm just thinking too much, and I shouldn't. It's not good for me~" She uncurled, letting her feet fall back to the floor and stretching her arms. It was such a blatant lie, and she knew it, but she couldn't and wouldn't tell him now. Just ... not yet. Later, later, when her stomach stopped twisting just being around him right now. But she didn't want to be alone, either. Not particularly.

"Uh, despite all weirdness... would you mind..." she trailed off. How rude was she, about to ask if she could crash here? She'd imposed on him enough and probably confused the hell out of him. She shook her head, wondering how exactly she WOULD explain all of this later.

Ravi tilted his head to the side, looking at Tatsuki curiously for another moment. Nothing, seriously?

Well, maybe that was all it was. Sometimes just about anything could just happen to get you thinking all of a sudden, so it didn't sound that unlikely. That didn't have to be a bad thing, either. Not really.

"Yeah?" Ravi gave Tatsuki another grin, then leaned closer to reach over and ruffle her hair. "Nothing wrong with thinking, Tatsuki. As long as it's not gonna start getting to you, right? Could be because it's probably getting late, though." He paused, waiting for her to finish whatever it was that she'd been about to ask him. "Mind what, Tatsuki?"

Tatsuki shut an eye while he ruffled her hair, made a half-hearted motion at batting his hand away (though she clearly didn't mean it), and couldn't help a tiny smile. "Yeah, I'm sure," she said, ducking her head in a small nod. "And hey, don't worry about it," she added, flapping a hand. "I won't let it. And you might have a point there, actually."

She paused to look at him, expression unreadable for a moment. "If I crashed here tonight," she finished simply. At the very least, it couldn't hurt to ask.

Ravi laughed and pulled his hand away, placing both hands on either side of him on the edge of the bed now. He shook his head at Tatsuki's reply and smiled at her. "'Course I'm not gonna mind," he said. She'd stayed here before, after all, for a couple of days during that one week, so it wasn't like this was the first time. The 'weirdness' tonight didn't seem that weird, either, just something that was making him wonder. But Tatsuki seemed okay.

"You want the bed? The sheets're clean," Ravi added.

Tatsuki broke out into her first real grin of the night. She'd been smiling before, sure, but this one she meant. It was hard to stay unhappy or mopey around Ravi for long. Not that the confusion all of this had caused her would go away in one night, but... somehow it was easier this way.

"Thanks," she said, a little more quietly than before. But she blinked when he went on, then... cracked up laughing at the detail about the sheets being clean. "Good to know," was her slightly sarcastic response. "But sure." Most times she would say she felt bad for taking his bed - again - but she knew in advance he'd say he didn't mind that, either.

Yeah, she'd do whatever it took for him. Even though a tiny voice whispered Orihime, Orihime in the back of her mind.
