cybernautical mode: [yellow alert] A friend in need

via sabrebabe, with permission:

I've been hoarding stuff to give to chorus_of_chaos for her new place. Granted, I can't give her everything she needs, but I do have a bit of stuff. Blankets, old afghans (for the dogs and cats) and a nice haul of cheap-ass kitchen appliances that Wal-Mart practicaly gave away on Black Friday. In that catch was a small crock pot, a chopper, a toaster, a small coffee maker, and a hand mixer. Also (because it *was* Black Friday) is a nice set (for 4) of Corningware dishes and a set of cheap-ass utinsels with the drawer insert. And I've been stashing small bits of cash on a Wal-Mart gift card because she'll need food, paper goods and cleaning supplies, as well as feminine supplies and "health and beauty aids".

So, anyone who would like to contribute to the cause, she now has a destination address. Please don't send stuff to her current address right now. Due to the holidays, she may not get it in time. She also has a Paypal account if you want to go that route.

Stuff she needs/can use:
*Wal-Mart gift cards (for the above mentioned supplies)
*warm comfy things, like blankets, socks, sweatsuits, big fluffy pillows, etc.
*LIQUID VITAMINS!!! (she's horribly malnourished, due to the idiot not bothering to cook or buy food for her (however, he always seems to have just enough money to buy McDonalds for minself). Liquid Vitamins, mostly B-complex if you can find them. Lots of them.
*lotion for really, super-dry skin. Lots of it.
*Gift Certificates for books (or, see her Amazon list). We're not sure if she'll have television yet. And internet access is also up in the air at the moment.
*Anime Dvds (same reason)
*coupons, coupons, coupons!
*pretty, shiney things to hang from windows.
*bells, bells, bells and windchimes too!
*baked goods that can be frozen
*jams, jellies, chutneys, peanut butter, Nutella and the like
*lots of email, snailmail and support

Contact chorus_of_chaos for her landing address (or P.O. Box)to send stuff to. I've got lists around here to help me remember everything, and I'm certain I'm forgetting half or what I need. But she's not staying in that hellhole anymore. If you live in the nearby area (on either end) we could use help in loading and unloading the truck even though I'll have a nice big surly teenager with me :D And Emili (a friend of mine who wanted to leave last month!) too. My eldest child will meet us at the landing point to cook up a bunch of meals to divvy up into smaller portions to freeze. Nice to know she went to culinary school for a higher purpose :D

I know I'm missing something. I can't think of what, though. Gas and food will be tight on the road, but we'll make it. I'm more concerned with getting her settled into her new place and set up a few community agencies to see to her immediate (and long-term) needs. I may have to knock a few heads together, but I have a nice hockey stick for that. :D

Indigo here.

This post is public because I'm hoping generous eyes will see it.

I've got a care package I've been adding to in drips and drabs and will be sending along. But she's establishing a household on her own with nothing but the kindness of friends, because her abusive soon-to-be-ex has squandered everything including her health. Best not to get me started. I offered every help for abused woman I could think of, but none of them were really helpful. The mental illness got in their way. This is our government, huh? We'd love to help you except we won't unless you fit in our neat little cubbyholes.

If you have anything you feel like you could spare, I'm sure chorus_of_chaos would appreciate it. Or if you could help out sabrebabe with the gas, even.

ETA:

chorus_of_chaos's end of this trip is in NY ...Western NY, I think.
sabrebabe's end of this trip is in the UP in Michigan.
