Like it's any more ridiculous than your name?

[the moment that's uttered? there's a silence.

wasn't she just in a hotel room? wasn't she just talking to...]

Yorick?

[no, this wasn't the same place. this wasn't even the same scenery! a few steps are recorded: slow. careful. cautious.] What the hell is going on?

[Funny how one name evokes so many memories from high school English.]

Yorick? What, like from Hamlet?

Apparently.

Alas, poor Yorick having a name like that.

[...he never claimed to be original with his puns.]

Did you catch the "Kitchen's on the first floor" spiel already?

I'm sure he's heard that one before.

[she's in a place full of jokers, isn't she?]

...there's a kitchen?

Way more than just a kitchen, but yep, and it's on the first floor. Open twenty-four hours a day and never empty of residents, I can tell you that.

There's also a library, a pool, a bar, a gym, the mythical laundry room--And, of course, the resident's rooms. The castle makes sure all the usual amenities are covered and then some.

[a beat] I'm Jacob.

[she's listening,

but all she's deciding to respond to is...]

Jacob is a man's name.

[...That might be one of the strangest responses he's heard.]

Yeeeah, it is. At least, I'd hope so. My mom's not the type to give her only son a girl's name.

[.......]

There are other men here?

Reply

thetruealpha October 4 2009, 08:34:13 UTC
Quite a few of us, actually. [If that male auction was any indication...] You sound genuinely surprised by that.

Last I checked, all the men were killed off by the plague five years ago.

[Well shit.]

...I'm seriously hoping the two of us come from completely different worlds or time streams or something. What year does that happen?

three_fiftyfive October 4 2009, 08:41:57 UTC
Worlds, huh.

[and a sigh]

Earth, 2002 AD.

[And he lets out a huge sigh of relief. At least he won't be going home to any other bizarro events back home. Vampires and werewolves were more than enough for him.]

Earth, 2006 AD and me and all the other males on the planet are still alive and kicking. We must be from different timelines. Not that uncommon around this place.

What the hell kind of plague kills just the guys?

This place? What is this place?

And it's a long story with its fair share of theories, both scientific and conspiracy. If what you're saying is true, then I'd be happy to have escaped certain death.

It's called Paradisa. You come here without warning, and stay for however long. Sometimes you get to leave, sometimes you find yourself passing years here, but it's different for every one. The only definite thing is that you can't leave of your own accord. Sure, you can go outside, and there's a city and some other weird stuff out there. But there's no way to get back to Earth or anything.

And yeah, no one ever really believes any of it when they first get here, so I won't hold it against you if you wanna have a laugh or something.

[linefaces don't laugh over things that are completely foreign to them. B|

she's getting it despite the skepticism, albeit slowly. what person in their right mind WOULD believe any of this? seriously.]

More like confusion and apprehension.
