[still confused on finding out what his loss is, Danny has been thinking way too much. Trying to figure out how people cope with something missing from their lives here, and if taking advantage of that -- somehow is disrespectful to the ones back home. So of course, while sitting on the steps of the grand staircase in the lobby of the castle Danny ( Read more... )

Then you're lucky if you have someone from home who knows and who's willing to tell you.

[nods] Not so sure if I'd think it was luck though.

I know her, she's a good friend actually. From what I recall we had a thing, and then things got rough and that was that. Showed up here, figured we were still just good friends.

[rubs his forehead] Turns out back home we're married and have a kid on the way, though Adam said she was just born... but that's after I'm from.

...That's pretty fucked-up.

But is it better than forgetting her altogether, do you think? At least you got half a chance to figure out where you should stand, here, long as you remember who she is. Can't be easy, either way. Sorry, man.

[laughs] Yeah it is.

She's not here though. Mean if she was, it might be easier to sort out. Instead I've been here thinking I'm single back home -- I'm just wondering how disrespectful I'm being to her, I won't remember it when I go back, but I'll know about it here.

Oh! Well, okay, that makes it a little easier, then. Until she shows up. If she does. Place has a way of being sadistic like that.

[He's quiet for a moment as he thinks.] That's tougher, yeah. Guess it depends on how flexible and open-minded you're willing to be about it? Like, assume worst case: say you start a serious relationship with someone else and the next day, she shows up. Think you'd be able to juggle that?

Yeah -- that's my point exactly. Mean I was fine, until I found out. Mean Montana could've dropped in and I wouldn't have known until she told me. Now I know, and is that gonna make me an ass if I try to actually live a life here? Cause what if she never shows? What if she shows and she doesn't even remember me?

[quietly] Living your life freely isn't the same as being an ass about it. Sure, she might be pissed if she found out - until she really realizes what losses are, here. Nobody gets off easy. Nobody.

If you live by what-if, you might as well not be living at all.

Yep, that's me. Keep getting too distracted to start it up, though. Should really do something about that.

Well if you need help, let me know. I could use something to take my mind off over thinking in this place.

Makes two of us. Had too many friends leave lately.

Wish there was something we could do about it, you know?

I'd agree, but then again I'm not sure how I'd feel if there was someone here trying to keep me from going back home.

Depends. Some of us don't exactly have sunshine and kittens to go home to.
