Is it not better to learn from a neutral source such as a book or file than to learn of it directly from someone involved in the incident?

I understood. I was making the observation that many would find it better to learn the information as you did. Perhaps it has less emotional impact that way, leaving you better able to deal with the situation.

...I cannot say for certain, since I learned similar information in a different fashion. I apologize if I have offended you.
