A question for the magic users of this castle. What's the difference between magic, and power as according to your world?

What do you mean?

Aren't they sort of the same thing?

No, not actually. At least they're not in my world.

How are they different?

I'll try to answer the question after that, once I see what you mean.

Well, magic is power borrowed from a higher being. Power is something that a person already owns.

That's the best way I can explain it.

Well...

Where I'm from you have Mazoku, and humans. The Mazoku can use magic, and the human's can't without the aid of a type of stone. You're born with the ability to do it, so I don't think it's really borrowing..

Are the Mazoku like angels, or demons? Hmm, that is interesting.

We're demons. But..

What are angels?

You're a demon?

Back where I'm from, angels are divine messengers of the Gods. Demons are said to be angels that rebelled against the gods.

Yep! Well, half.

...I don't think we have any Gods...My memories aren't...complete, thanks to my loss, but I don't think so..I'm not sure what they are, either.

Are angel's magical?

So you're half demon. That's, kind of...neat.

Ahh, well, Gods are beings that angels, and some humans worship.

Angels can usually do things that normal people can't.

I think it is. You can do a lot to help people with the kind of abilities you have. Like healing maryoku, which is our word for magic.

Why? What do they do? Do they have magic?

Normal people? You mean humans?

Hmm, that's enlightening.

Nnn, it's more like they can do things that nothing else can. For one thing they tend to be immortal. [pause as she thinks] There's a story about a certain God who gave all men the gift of death.

Yes, I suppose you could say that.

The gift of death? I dunno if I'd exactly call that a gift...or why anyone would want to worship someone for doing it. Do you have many Gods? Have you met any?

Can you do magic? Is that why you were asking?

Well, in the legend, humans were immortal, but they were always fighting, always hurting each other so severely that they desired the pain to end. So when this God came, and gave them death it was a blessing.

Actually yeah, and I know of at least three of them.

...yeah, but I find it pointless.

...I'm still not sure that it is anymore. It causes pain to everyone that gets left behind, you know?

Really? Are they nice?

Really? Maybe you just haven't found the right thing to do it for yet.

So you'd rather than people suffer eternally?

Maybe.

There was only one case where I had to rely on magic. Well, magic as it applies in my world.
