[Reno Browne was thoroughly glad to be back in civilization.

It wasn't that life on the Mover was terrible or devoid of luxuries -- it had precious few, and nothing like those of Paradisa, but they were there. It just got boring, to live in the same four walls, a small apartment with a door that only locked on one side. It got redundant, to only be allowed out with a guard. It got lonely, to wait for some sort of political change.

Roy had fixed a lot of that, fortunately; eking out a life avoiding three different parties was difficult, but it was freedom. The kind of freedom they had talked about, so many years ago. If she could make this new life work for a while, she could happily never think of Paradisa, or the Free Peoples, or their divided squabbles ever, ever again.

Of course, it was difficult to not think of Paradisa when you were back in it, and now that she was here, it was hard to deny the pleasures of it. Perhaps straying this close to the border hadn't been the mistake she'd initially thought it had been. As long as they could lay low, it would be fine.

At a quiet little café on a side street in Paris, Reno Browne hands a menu to Roy Harper and points out some of their options.]

What do you think?
