[Zelman's tucked just out of the way as you're leaving the castle--he's leaning against the outside wall to the side of the door, gazing somewhat uninterestedly out at the snow-covered grounds. he is definitely not dressed for the weather (wearing the same pants and t-shirt and hat and tennis shoes he always wears), but does not seem to mind the ( Read more... )

[It doesn't take long before, as out of the blue and suddenly as ever, Pharos appears beside Zelman. Although instead of facing out at the snow, he's peering at one of the windows into the Castle, trying and failing to see his reflection in it while he pushes his hair back out of his face.

He doesn't look up at Zelman though, too busy fiddling clumsily with his hair. Which is probably pretty weird in itself.]

It did not seem an entirely unpleasant one last year, at the very least.

[he wouldn't have even looked over if the sound didn't bounce off the window all funny like that. ...funny, he kind of got the impression that Pharos wasn't even all that aware of his physical body, so why's he messing with his hair?]

Mm. It's tame compared to other things the place could pull.

[...well, he might as well ask.] Need a haircut or something?

Careful, Zelman. I have heard other Castle residents say in the past that such things can "jinx it". [Though he chuckles, because it sounds like a particularly funny joke to him. The Castle would only do something like that if the majority of people were calling it tame!

He looks up at Zelman though, hands still in his hand. Forgotten about them already, it seems.]

I do not believe I ever require such things, no. Why do you ask?

[But before Zelman can actually reply, he glances back at the window, and does his best to smooth his slightly unruly hair back with his fingers. ...it's too short to make much difference either way, and he can't actually see it, but can't blame a kid for trying.]

Do you believe it would look peculiar if I had my hair like this?

[...Pharos, you are too precious. Zelman doesn't say anything to any of this for a moment, eventually just reaching down and sweeping his bangs back himself, holding them down on his head so that he can get a good idea of what that would look like.]

A little. It might look nice if your hair were a little longer.

So it would work better if my hair were longer? [His gaze flickers up, as if he could see his hair and Zelman's hand that way (which he can't), before a grin spreads across his face.]

Wonderful! I believe it should work out just fine in that case.

[Oh yes, he seems very pleased by this. 8> ]

Please pardon me, Zelman; I will return shortly.

[And without another word on the matter, he disappears again, just as quickly as he'd arrived.]

All-- [oh, he's gone.] --right.

[...he'll just move his hand from where it'd been resting on his head, then. he's trying to figure out what he meant by that, but it's kind of not adding up. he's not going to, like... change his hair or something, is he? :|a]

[A bit more than that, really.

It takes, unlike Pharos's usual speediness, a good ten minutes before he reappears in front of the window; and when he does, he's right back to trying to look at his reflection, and failing utterly.

...Only probably is, he's several feet taller. Older, in fact. And he resembles Minato very closely, save for the fact that his hair is that dark notquiteblack color, and his eyes are the same odd two-tone blue they've always been. He even seems to have found a shirt and pants that resemble Minato's school uniform, though sans jacket and shoes, because he doesn't have the coordination for shoelaces anyway. Zelman might even be able to feel him there, since the change in form does take up a certain amount of energy.

But if he has any reservations on who's standing there, it'll at least be obvious in the clumsy way he's trying to push his longer hair back. It seems to have lost most of the curliness with the added length.]...I am somewhat uncertain if I can keep it like this for very long periods of time... ( ... )

[wow.

for once, Zelman looks really legitimately surprised.]

[....no, he just. trying really hard to think and it's not working.]

You're taller.

I am considerably taller!

[He straightens up a bit, wobbling only slightly, and seeming rather pleased with himself that he doesn't have any more difficulty than that. He looks at Zelman and grins.]

Though I imagine it will take some time to become accustomed to the height. I do not believe this form is precisely like the one that the Castle gave me in the past, and this is the first time I have attempted to use it.

[so tiny Pharos is now suddenly older and pretty-good-looking Pharos, which is confusing and kind of weird since he's so used to thinking of him as having a very small form. he looks him up and down, trying to decide what he thinks of this sudden, inexplicable new look...

but he just ends up laughing. partly out of leftover surprise, and partly out of how funny it was that he went off and changed his appearance like that. of course he shouldn't expect someone like him to ever run out of little surprises.]

It looks good on you. I didn't know you could do that.

[also, that fairy he swatted away earlier? totally waiting nearby... probably waiting for revenge.]

[He looks confused momentarily, before the grin on his face widens. He's not entirely sure why Zelman is laughing, but he's rarely run into a situation in which laughing was actually a bad thing; so he takes it as a good sign, and just adds it to the very slight ego boost of his current success.]

I believe I would be capable of most things if I actually attempted them - I simply have not tried very many things that I could potentially be capable of.

I am glad that you approve of it, however.

[Darn you, vengeful fairies!! ... Unfortunately though, Pharos hasn't noticed it. Or if he has, he's paying it no mind, since it's such a tiny (and not terribly powerful) lifeform anyway.]

It would get easier with time, hm?

[he's just delighted with the idea. he can't help but tease him a little.]

Any particular reason for the change, or did you just want to impress me?

[...also, that fairy will start to hover over both of them now, sprinkling liberal amounts of fairy dust.]

I certainly hope so!

There are quite a number of reasons for this, actually; one of which being that my smaller form is somewhat too recognizable within the Castle after being here for quite so long. [He pauses a little. Almost uncertain, which is odd for him, since Pharos rarely seems uncertain of anything.] I always wish to impress you though, Zelman.

[After taking a moment to curiously brush some of the fairy dust off of his shirt, Pharos gets a very inexplicable urge. For someone that doesn't really get urges, they're really quite difficult to ignore.

And it's really quite funny, the things you can manage when you're a few feet taller than you typically are. Reaching all the high shelves. Walking into low-hanging branches. Being on eye-level with one of your very favorite people.

In fact, Pharos is just tall enough that - when he tries - he can lean over and press his lips to Zelman's, unlike last year.

Oh, the funny things height and fairy dust can cause.]

[which really does make this one of the stranger encounters he's had with Pharos yet. flattered by the admittance of such a thing and more than a little influenced by the fairy dust, what was already kind of a forward motion turns into him rather insistently catching his lips and pressing towards him for a proper kiss.

yeah, a lot different than last year.]

[The odd thing about fairy dust - or any of the little tricks that the Castle uses this time of year - is that it tends to have the odd effect of making Pharos very aware of himself.

And at the moment, he recalls that - oh - he actually knows how to reciprocate a gesture like this, at least in theory. He'd been in Minato's head long enough after all. So he does (or tries to), because he's found things like hugs and kisses over his time in the Castle to be very nice, and why should this be any different? It's all the same to him, generally speaking.]
