42. The Answer to Life, the Universe and Everything

[There were many things which were inappropriate to do in public, as defined by the legal system and social morality. Many of these were on Aziraphale's own list1, and the one that was concerning him currently was Public Nudity. It seemed that even in the castle, there were certain people who were unaware of propriety and chose to flaunt themselves where anyone could see.

It was understandable, of a fashion, that the child had not known about the existence of his own bathroom, therefore that the fountain had been a good substitute for washing himself. Still, it was only Right2 that someone take steps to prevent further mistakes of this nature being made.

Thus the angel has manufactured a sign. It is not a flashy sign with neon bulbs that angrily demands the passer-by to pay attention to it, nor is it the type of flaking unreadable sign that are inevitably found above Olde Worlde tea rooms. This sign was, quite simply put, a sign. No adjective should be wasted describing it, for it was conspicuous only by its complete lack of flair or interest.]

THANK YOU

1. With the understandable additions of morris dancing and impersonating anyone from Eastenders.
2. Which put it directly into Aziraphale's official remit of work guidelines.
