[Alan Bradley]

So. Tron talked about a lightcycle he and Clu had modded to work out here. You wouldn't happen to have that around, would you?

--And can you ride?

[People Who Went On The Last Expedition]

I heard you all rode a "train". [He sounds like he's unfamiliar with the word.] What was powering it? Steam? Is its ( Read more... )

I do.

I haven't tried to ride it - only got as far as talking about it with you and Tron.

So, you want to try? I've got mine.

I don't think I'm much of a motorcyclist, but these old bones will give it a shot.

Out past the courtyard?

All right! I'll meet you out at the gates?

[It's been too long since he has a nice ride.]

Yeah, see you there.

[And soon enough, Alan's out at the gates, baton in hand - better be careful, Gibson, Alan never found out that the thing that turns into lightcycles can double as a sword.]

[Gibson's leaning against the gate, flipping his own baton casually around.]

Now, I know mine's been modified for this terrain. You familiar with how to activate yours?

[Alan nods, separating the two halves of the baton. Though he's seen it once before, he's still surprised at the machine that rezzes quietly beneath the batons-turned-handles.]

How do these start and stop?

[Gibson grins and flips his out with one fluid motion.]

Just hop on. They stop when you do.

[Which is to say, the controls seem to be mostly...telepathic or something.]

[If Gibson says so...still, when he slings his leg over the body of the lightcycle, he wishes up a helmet and puts it on. At least it recognizes he doesn't want to go yet.]

After you.

[And he hops on. In what normal people would probably call ridiculous speeds, he starts doing some short curves, alternating between letting the light trail be on and off to show him how it's done.

Come on, Alan. You know you want to.]

[You speed racer Gibson you! But he's got to try it once, even if it's just slow. So Alan leans forward and the lightcycle moves, and it goes a little faster once he gets the hang of it. Not nearly enough to catch up to Gibson, though.]

Should've asked if the light trails really hurt like in the games...

[No worries there; his lightcycle is definitely not going fast enough for lethality. It might make Alan fall off if he hits it, though.

Gibson circles around to lead Alan in some basic maneuvers.]

Nice balance!

[Don't jinx him, Gibson! Alan nods and goes a little faster as he follows Gibson. This is actually pretty fun - though not something he's in good enough shape to do often.]

[Of course it's fun! Gibson does a few fancy spirals before riding parallel to Alan and matching his pace.]

What do you think?

I can see why Sam and Flynn loved the Ducati so much. And what Flynn meant about the Lightcycles game. [Though of course, to Flynn, it wasn't a game.]

Ducati? [Never heard of it.]

In the game, we try to hit the other people with our trails. If you're good, you can go a few minutes without getting knocked off.
