one break of the stone

[Sir Durge does not trust the magical, talking book. Not one bit. He isn't very comfortable with magic to start off with, but this object does not seem like any he's encountered before. In the very least he is mildly certain it isn't sorcery. But what did he know? He was just a knight.

That said, he wasn't where he was supposed to be, and this book ( Read more... )

[She's suddenly reminded of Haldir and smiles. That sort of unswerving devotion is not as common as it ought to be.]

Yet what a knight she has lost-to think first of his duty, even in such circumstances.

[He can tell just by this woman's tone that she is nobility. He's gained a keen ear for such things over the years]

My duty is always to her, my lady. What is a knight without the strength of his word?

Very little, I should think, yet even the stoutest of sworn hearts may waver. You need not worry, however; I have good reason to believe your responsibilities will await you still when you return.

So others have said, though I find it hard to accept on word alone.

I would have said much the same, had allies of mine not arrived here. Each had seen more time than I- one nigh a month more- and neither had heard word of my departure.

That is far more solid evidence than mere assertion. It is, encouraging, though I am not yet ready to trust in all I hear just yet. I have seen magic make fantasy seem like reality.

As have I, though I am not so easily fooled by such things as some. I think it wise to be wary of this place and, indeed, of those within it. Many here are far too quick to trust.

[Slight pause while he actually considers this]

I am Lady Galadriel of Lothlórien. Well met, Sir Durge.

The same to you, Lady Galdariel. Tell me, is there anything else I should know about this place?

What else have you been told? I would not weary you by repeating what you have heard elsewhere.

Not much. No one seems to know why or how we are here and I have been told of something called a 'loss' - though I am not yet sure what I may be missing.

I fear I will be able to tell you no more on the first subjects than any other. I have much speculation, but little in the way of facts.

You should also be informed, however, that this place deems fit to amuse itself by manipulating both its form and the lives of its captives from time to time.

I should have expected as much. Why is it I feel like a dog at the end of a very short lead?
