The Mirador was closer to a fortress. Similar to this, but there were no windows anywhere. Paradisa reminds me of it from time to time. Like now, I suppose.
Not at all. If anyone were ever fool enough to try to invade, they'd have to get past the city walls, first, then the entirety of Mélusine. Plus, the Mirador is both on a hill and the tallest structure in the city.
Of course, even if they managed that, they would have both the Mirador's wards and a fortress full of wizards to contend with. Which is exactly why they won't.

The Mirador is much older than the government that holds power in Mélusine currently. There was a line of kings that stretched far back into the ages. I imagine they found it useful.
