Wish for it.

Forgive me if I don't consider a sentient building a reliable source of information.

So you'll take it from a prisoner? Paradise Lost could have stolen their brains.

[oh hey you talk funny and it's kind of awesome.]

From what I can tell, many of them didn't have brains to steal.

[James appreciates the fact that it's written, and how precise the letters are as well. And while he normally would speak, he is going to do this a little differently so he writes.]

The journal can also be spoken into similar to a telephone in it's function. You have seen others theories concerning this world, what it is yes? May I ask which theory you may be inclined to believe at first? It would be of great aide in attempting to explain this world to you.

Not interested in theories. Interested in data.

You are in a sentient castle inside a bubble area wherein all technology works. Moving out beyond a certain area will, I have been told, not allow these items to work.

Inside this castle alone are a number of creatures that are unbelievable at first, but are very much real.

And all the residents here barring a rare few believe in magic.

[here we go, now we're getting somewhere.]

Interesting.

Define "technology." Anything with a signal? A battery? If something were to be charged within the bubble, would it fail to work outside it regardless?

Perhaps a more specific question might aide somewhat in that?

Can't.

longaevus September 26 2011, 17:42:51 UTC
And why would that be?

[the journal picks up an unhappy sigh]

Because to narrow my field of questioning in an unfamiliar environment would exclude potentially important information.

Just give me facts. Anything. Everything.

[Normally, Conan would have been very interested in the statement that appeared in the journal. There were so few here that approached the situation with a logical mind. But, as it was, he was currently under a loss and believed himself to be his true seven-year-old self. Shinichi Kudo, first grader. And so his reaction is a little different.

Shinichi's reply appears in a simplistic, but precise script.]

Good luck with that. No one here has told me anything that makes sense.

Doesn't matter. I intend to make sense out of it.

I've been told that this castle kidnapped us. Despite the fact that there has been no sign of any guards or barrier to our movement except the castle itself. And lots of stuff about magic and ghosts, which is completely illogical. And everyone I've met has been calling me by a name I don't know, and insisting that they've met a relative of mine that I have never heard of before.

I've no reason to suspect that the other residents are prone to telling outlandish lies. Just that they've latched on to an explanation that suits them and refuse to dig any deeper.

Did you read the entire journal? [May or may not be mocking the man.]

60%, give or take.

[It's pretty much what he wanted to know. This is far the less entertaining option, but it doesn't mean he won't be of assistance]

There is very little we know about Paradisa that isn't yet recorded in the journals, I'm afraid to say. There are varying theories about the wishes, the ghosts, the castle itself...but as you've mentioned, theories are of no use to you.

I would recommend you read this entry, if you haven't already.

There has been one more expedition not mentioned in that report but...ah...I'd rather not advertise the results too widely. Can I get your name? For the filter.

[he has, but he circles the page number here anyway. Good to know that they're still using it to inform newcomers.]

Sherlock Holmes.
