[Do not ask how Sam has gone two and a half years without a job. Just ... don't. Never mind the fact that he's not exactly accustomed to having a job beyond fighting the forces of darkness, but in the castle -- there's a part of him that never wanted to believe that all of this was permanent

[Chuck is in the back when Sam steps in, stepping up to the counter with her hands covered in flour. She's clearly in a good mood, eyes bright and tone peppy as she greets him.]

Good afternoon! I guess you're here about the ad?

[She goes to offer her hand to shake, before realizing that they're coated in flour, and dusts them off on the front of her apron.]

That's me, in case you couldn't, well, tell.

[smiles as nods, and extends his hand once she's finished dusting them off]

Yeah. I'm Sam.

It's nice to meet you, Sam.

[She shakes his hand firmly.]

Well, come on, sit down. Tell me a little about yourself. [She pulls off her apron as she heads around the counter, walking toward a seat.]

[follows her to the seat and sits across from her, before giving a bit of a shrug]

Well, I've never worked in a bakery before, and I can't bake to save my life, but I did work as part of the kitchen staff in a couple of diners when I was in college to make some extra money. I've also worked in bars, so I know how to do customer service.

[a beat]

I went to Stanford for college -- if that means anything to you where you're from.

[Chuck grins at him, clearly impressed.]

That means a lot. So you're from the United States too, then? What year?

[relaxes with a bit more of a smile]

2010? I'm from Lawrence, Kansas originally.

Kansas. I've heard it's a beautiful place. It's 2009 back home for me -- I wonder if we're from the same world. It's certainly a thought.

Maybe. Stranger things have happened.

What did you go to Stanford for, Sam?

Pre-law? But I was a history major.

[playdohsmash]

That's pretty fascinating.

[Chuck tilts her head slightly to the side.]

So what makes you want to work at a pie shop?

[imnot_likeyou]

[shrugs]

I need something to do. I figure a job would be a good way to pass the time, and I do like pie.

That's good enough for me. As long as you've got a work ethic, I'd love to have you.

[She drums her fingers thoughtfully on the countertop.]

Could you stop by in the morning around ten? I'll be training Kitty a little then, too.

Work ethic I've definitely got.

[nods with a half-smile]

Yeah, I can do that.

[She stands up with a smile.]
