Case 3: The Offer

Aug 24, 2011 15:25

[James is sounding oddly tired considering he hasn't been up to much recently, well not physically at least.  But he also sounds, slightly excited really.]

If anyone would like to learn another language, I am more then happy to teach you, if you would like.  As a precaution of course in case things happen again like they did the last few days.

Oh, I am more than up to it, especially now that I can actually communicate effectively. I might have to make up for three days of near silence.

[He's laughing a little at that.]

Well then, I am more then happy to assist you in that if you would like. Though if any sort of demonstrations are done, I would suggest possibly somewhere other then my room, just to be safe. [He's not entirely certain what Helen would say if she walked in and saw Felix working his magic.]

[Chuckles in turn]

To be safe? I promise I won't break anything, but if it would ease your mind we can meet anywhere you like.

I may take you up on the offer. Sadly the one person with whom I'd really like to speak with doesn't speak English either...unless you could teach him as well.

No, no it's not fear of breaking anything, I've just, recently acquired a roommate, and I'm not entirely positive how she would take to it if she walked in and saw it.

I am happy to teach you both English if you would like, or whatever language you would like to learn. I can speak French, German, Japanese and Italian as well if either of you two would prefer to learn them.

Ah I see. Is she the paranoid or the logical type?

I'll see if I can talk him into it. Apparently I already speak Italian, or something close to it. I'm not sure about him. Though given how common it appears to be, English might benefit us both. Assuming I don't wound his delicate royal sensibilities by suggesting it.

She's an old friend and colleague, the logical type.

Don't push it if he doesn't want to learn it, I am merely offering it as a choice. Especially if he is, sensitive to such suggestions, but if you learn it he just might, so he can talk to you later on. But if you speak Italian or something close, then you know what my world calls the Roman alphabet, does he use something similar or does it look different?

I was mostly joking. I am fairly certain Ashura sees the benefit in being worldly, even if it isn't, well, our world.

His lettering was much different.

One can never be too safe after all. But if he would like to learn I am happy to oblige however as I said before.

Did it look like this? [He's carefully drawing in a few Japanese characters next to that, he saw more then a few speaking it after all so who knows?]

Something like that, yes.

So he's familiar with something similar to, my worlds Japanese then. That is quite the language barrier you two must have had.

[A short laugh] Yes, I think for the first minute or so we thought each other was either going crazy or on a loss.

It's not the first time I have been thankful that he has the patience of a saint.

[A laugh as well.} I can see that yes, not every day you wake up to find someone you care for doesn't understand you.

And I can imagine so, without that patience I would think your time would have been entirely different.

Indeed. [So, yes, that was awkwardly close to gushing about the boyfriend. Switching gears now...]

But back to your earlier proposal...would you like to meet today?

Felix Harrowgate jamesholmes August 25 2011, 01:46:44 UTC
[Aww, James would have gladly let him gush, he doesn't judge, besides its fun learning about others.]

If you would like. I have no engagements today to attend to, so if you have time to meet it would be good.

[Give him time. He doesn't talk much about his personal life, unless he's intentionally trying to make a scandal of it]

I have no objections. This evening amenable? We can try my room, if you wish. It's 1015. Or the library if you'd like a more neutral territory.

I assure you, however, that I don't bite unless asked or provoked.

[He's not one to press unless it's important which it really isn't so its all good.]

This evening is fine, and the location is entirely up to you, wherever you would feel most comfortable.

So long as you don't attempt to murder me where I stand I think we'll be fine.
