Case 3: The Offer

Aug 24, 2011 15:25

[James is sounding oddly tired considering he hasn't been up to much recently, well not physically at least.  But he also sounds, slightly excited really.]

If anyone would like to learn another language, I am more then happy to teach you, if you would like.  As a precaution of course in case things happen again like they did the last few days.

I'm still terribly amused that the Doctor, after spending centuries peddling across different eras of time on Earth - can't speak a bloody word of English without the TARDIS translator to aid him.

Is that why he wasn't talking much the entire time of that? He can't...how can he have gone this long without it?

[He's laughing, but trying not too.]

Pretty much. Luckily I can speak Gallifreyan, so we could communicate. I'm thinking of signing him up for one of your little classes.

And he had his other self to talk with so at least he wasn't alone the entire time. But if you like you may, and can talk him into coming, I don't mind teaching him. And if he doesn't learn from me I am pretty certain I could talk to Helen about teaching him.

[Of course if it is debatable if the class would stay true to just the language being taught with James and the Doctor, but at least it wouldn't be boring.]

I can probably talk him into it. I think he sees the value in learning English right about now.

I imagine he would after the last three days. I know it can be terribly frustrating to talk to someone who doesn't understand you. If he has questions he can talk to me whenever he would like about it.

I'll send him your way.

So, how have you been?

Sounds good then, I'll make sure to have time set aside for it.

I've been well actually. [Hear that cheeriness? Yeah he's in a good mood.] Catching up with an old friend, relaxing, digging around in all of the languages from the last few days.

How about yourself?

Sounds like you've been having a good time.

[Her voice perks as well]

I was on the front line against Ritful. Went to the after party and got knackered. After that, I've pretty much been exploring outside the Castle this past week.

She's from at least two years in my future, and is an old friend, it's been a very good time. [And...he's clueless about how that could be taken...really really clueless right now.]

I was wondering if you had gone out against her, I was back here in the clinic, patching up those that needed it. And really? Find anything interesting while exploring?

What's her name? I might know her.

[She knew of Nikola, so it wasn't a long shot]

Fighting's in my blood, James. I had to try and take her down.

As for my explorations, I've found some beautiful scenery, but not much else. Periodically we have exploration expeditions - usually led by the Doctors if you're interested.

You at least know of her I would imagine, as you know both myself and Nikola. Helen Magnus.

[He would be surprised if she didn't know of her really.]

I figured as much, but so long as you survived that's the important thing. I would have helped more, but my body isn't what it once was.

Beautiful scenery is something, but not as exciting as other things. But I will have to keep an ear out for those expeditions then, something to look forward to.

Oh yes, I think Nikola said I reminded him of her. Probably why we got on so well.

[She didn't yet know he was a selfish prick]

War and battle aren't for everyone, I understand that. The Doctor doesn't like to be in the thick of things either.

Yes, I can see where he would say that about you. I think you may get along well actually, she's a good woman, and a very old friend. May even be able to give you pointers on how to handle Nikola if you would like.

[Yes well, James can't blame her for that...Nikola is an acquired taste and all.]

I don't mind being in the thick of things, before I needed leg braces and such I was involved a lot more in world affairs, including a nasty little trip to France during Earth's second world war. It's not a dislike of it, but literally my body I doubt could handle it any longer.

I already know how to handle my man, I really don't have an interest in learning how to handle the likes of Nikola Tesla. I wouldn't mind meeting her though, sounds like we'd get along quite well

[River might flirt, but she loved only one man]

Oh, sometimes I forget your age. Your body doesn't physically regenerate like the Doctor's. So you must really feel your age.

I figured you did, you seem the type much like her. But you two would I think, strong, independent women, who leap before you think and rush in to help whenever possible. She's in my room, 609 if you would like to meet her sometime.

[He's not interested in setting anyone up in any sort of relationship, he just wants to make sure folks aren't steamrolled by Nikola is all.]

It's fine, it happens. And I do, especially recently with all the walking I've had to do and all. It's to be expected though, you don't live 160 years without some sort of consequence.
