[About three or so shops away, Cass was looking at a very pretty window display. That was before she caught sight of the man subtly tailing the women. Eyes falling back to the window display, the young woman turns so she can see them reflected in the glass.
It's obvious to her the two have no idea they're being followed. Their body language emits a carefree and relaxed message to Cassandra, while the man's is slightly focused, although said focus is not directed at the object in his hand. He's also had training. Anyone who had could spot that right away, which is why she decides to follow the follower.
[ the midnighter turns the lampshade in his hand over, inspecting in. he asks the stallkeeper a question. meanwhile, one of the women pauses in her speech for a moment, to point at a (unisex) clothing store not too far away. they enter it, resuming their conversation.
whatever they're saying must interest him quite a bit. a few minutes later, after looking at some shoes at another stall, he follows them in. ]
[ eventually, the women exit the store. a few more people follow them.. and sure enough, in a minute or so, so does the midnighter, hands in pockets. he walks in the direction that they did. ]
[Giving it another minute herself, the young woman puts down the hat with a nod and goes on her way, occasionally stopping at a stall when she deems herself too close to the party.
If she's right, the man should soon be picking up on the fact that he's being followed. Then things will get interesting.]
though there are several people and some distance between him and the pair, he's still listening to their conversation. thank you, enhanced hearing. he stops shortly to buy an apple, and continues walking, eating it. the women turn down a street; so does he. ]
Okay, turning down streets isn't as easy, but it's still workable. Cass takes a shortcut between a few crowded stalls and waits there until the man rounds the corner. Yay for pretty flowers to look at in the meantime.]
[Now she decides to test her theory if he knew he was being followed or not. She doesn't step away from the flowers, but when he passes by, she speaks up.]

Let the games begin.]

Nothing interesting?

Nope. I just decided to slit their throats quietly and stuff them in a dumpster. Get it over with quickly, you know?

Kids today.
So, what did you get out of that?

Does it matter?

Usually when people follow me, they have a goal in mind. I just hope I didn't disappoint.
