Let me tell you a story

A man was invited to a grand banquet, but was turned away for wearing rags. So home he went to don his most beautiful robe and then return. When the soup was served, he dunked his sleeves into the bowl, and said, "Eat, my robe, eat!"

Asked to explain himself, he answered thus: "When I arrived wearing rags, I was turned away like a beggar, but when I came in my fine robe, I was treated like a prince. I can only assume that it was my robe that was invited to the banquet and not I."

Cair Paradisa, did you mean to summon me or my robe?

For it is foolish to invite the wrong guest and more so to summon something you cannot dismiss.

[ Find a tall white-haired man dressed in all white standing in your lobby, contemplating the crystal chandelier. He forgot to cast a human shadow on this most unceremonious arrival. ]
