Dangerous question leads to Sheik tl;dr. >_>;royalsheikahMarch 21 2011, 06:43:26 UTC
[ Sheik begins to speak, slow and careful, the sound of his harp playing softly along with his words. ]
...First you must know that Hyrule was created by the will of three great goddesses: Din, the Goddess of Power; Nayru, the Goddess of Wisdom; and Farore, the Goddess of Courage. After they shaped the world and gave life to the beings that roam it, they left the world for parts unknown; the point at which they left became the path to the Sacred Realm, and in it lay the most important of artifacts, the Triforce.
The Triforce represents the balance of all three forces, and for a long time it stood unmolested in the Sacred Realm.
That changed, however, when a dangerous man came from the desert. His name was Ganondorf, the King of the Gerudo. He came to the king of Hyrule with kind words and promises of alliances, but what he was really after was the Triforce. He had heard of the legend that any who could grasp the Triforce would have their wishes become true.
...the fates were against the people of Hyrule. The Hylian King could not believe his new alliance was a sham, and the princess -- she was too young to act wisely. Despite her efforts against him, or because of them, Ganondorf was able to access the Sacred Realm.
He lay his hands on the Triforce. But his heart was out of balance, and the Triforce as a whole did not accept him. It shattered into three. The Triforces of Wisdom and Courage fled to others, hiding themselves; the Triforce of Power remained with Ganondorf.
It was enough. He used it to overthrow Hyrule, slaying the King and decimating its army. Hyrule fell into darkness, and there it has stayed.
