001 - Pedal to the floor, my life is moving faster

Mar 13, 2011 21:43

[sometime that evening, the oh-so-familiar vworp vworping will sound just on the outskirts of the town. For a an hour or two more, everything is quiet until, finally, a familiar voice will broadcast itself over the journals]

Fascinating! Absolutely fascinating. Everything I say, you’re storing it away, just so.

A shop?

Right! A shop. One of those lovely little ones that go in the lobby and sell you all sorts of little knickknacks. You never know when you're going to need a good knickknack.

..... Those can be useful?

They certainly can! Most useful things in the universe, if you find yourself in the right spot. Never underestimate a strategically placed snowglobe, I always say!

[a beat] Well... not actually. I don't suppose I've ever really said that before. Still, it'd be quite catchy if I had, don't you think?

In the right context, yes.

.....

... I cannot think of a context in which a snowglobe would be useful, though.

Come to think of it....

No, can't say anything's coming to mind for me, either. But I've no doubt there's one out there. Actually, I'd rather like to see that....

[what was he...oh...right. Meeting people] Well, now. I've introduced myself. Or reintroduced, as the case might be. So who might you be?

Nagato Yuki.

We've only spoken once before. [She'll write in this page number.]

[flipping to said page, he'll reread the information she'd provided. He'd already looked at it, of course, but now he can put a voice and a name to the helpful hand]

Oh, you're good. Lovely work, Miss Yuki Nagato! That's quite helpful.

Yes, I have read through the entire journal.

Yes, well...so have I, but I'm brilliant. [said with all the nonchalance of someone with no doubt, whatsoever]

That is quite impressive.

[It's cool, she's used to egos.]

I don't think many residents have done it.

I should say not. I certainly won't forget it.

Now. Miss Nagato, if you'd be so kind, I've filled in a number of the holes, of course. This journal is quite a handy device. But it does have the drawback of not having recorded everything I might need to know. Though, I suppose that's not necessarily a bad thing. If it was truly recording ever last detail, that would be a fearful thing indeed. Still. Useful.

Perhaps you wouldn't mind getting me up to speed on the more current events, hmm? Perhaps share a bit of local color?

[Well, the most recent thing was Slenderman....]

There was an incident involving an entity kidnapping children.

So I read...it's a bit fascinating, isn't it? Stuff of myth and legends, coming to life, walking unknown among us until they act. Brilliant!

[a pause] And utterly dreadful, of course.

The opinion of most Cair Paradisa residents towards it was negative.

[... Well, pretty much everyone hated Slenderman. She's neutral on the issue for various reasons, though.]

I should hope so! That sort of thing really can't be tolerated.

[he would have loved to examine the situation, of course, but that's another matter entirely]

Still...I don't suppose anyone figured out how it was managing such a feat, hmm? Did my other selves make any progress before that rousing finale?
