Dear me,

It's been months, which is longer than some stays here, but shorter than others. This last time I arrived in October, according to the calendar here. Right after Naruto's birthday, to give you a better idea of the timeframe.

Right now, if you've come back and found this and don't remember writing it, I'm guessing you're new to this place. Again. It'd be at least the sixth time based on what the journal has recorded for the number of times I've been here, and in that case, go find Ino right now. Even if you've already talked to her, she's been here the longest. I think she's the only one of us to be here since near the start of the current calendar.

She expects us to leave. For my sake -- our sake -- I hope we haven't again, but if I did, and if I'm back again, be there for her. It's okay if she's a little distant. Don't let her get away with it. She's too used to acting on her own or with the people here that she forgets we've got her back, or that we're as capable as anyone she trusts here.

No, I'm not being fair. Who do you think you'd start trusting? The people who've stuck with you for years, and remember it all, or the ones you knew growing up who you have to keep explaining the magical castle to?

There are things to keep in mind. This is the first letter I've written, but not the first I've ever written. If you look back further, you'll understand what I mean.

There's a lot I want to make sure I know, but the first is pretty simple.

The Castle, all the lands before the Dead Zone, these places are capable of doing the impossible. They allow creatures to exist that can't be dealt with in any way we could deal with things from back home. The castle can send you to sleep, can change you, can bring you back to life. Work with the others to explore the deadlands. Figure out how to get away from the castle, or the magic behind all of this -- and yes, believe in magic. It's not that hard, if you accept that other people think our chakra is magic.

You can't always do something about what's going on. Don't let it get to you. Or do, but don't let it bring you down. Stick with our friends, make new friends, do what you have to. Life goes on back home once you're back, and no one will ever know you're here. Living with the focus on home only matters if you focus on the freedom to return, or the freedom to stay, if you find a reason to want to stay.

I'm not going to talk about that, though. Believe me when I say I know it's hard, but also believe me that it's better than it could be. Your loss is probably not going to be the same as it is now. From what I can tell, it never has been, so at least you'll have a voice to shout at people with.

It's funny how much I miss the sound of hearing myself talk. I listen to entries, from past months and years, though that's just as weird. I don't recognize that voice as mine, but I know it has to be. Funny how the inner ear works, right?

I'll write more in the future, to let you know what's gone on. Or maybe it'll just be for me to read back over and remember how I felt at one point in time in the past I remember.

I hope it's that.

Yours,
H. Sakura
