eighteenth labyrinth

[The afternoon finds Felix sitting on the edge of the fountain in town with his journal in his lap and a small box of other books at his feet. He seems to be lost in thought a moment, his chin tilted upward to feel the slight warmth of the sun in the early spring air.]

I could maybe go for that. What does your council do?

Not a whole lot, as of yet, but the goal is to research all the types of magic here in Paradisa; both that of residents and that which is native to this world.

And do what with the research?

Quite a lot. The first goal is to keep a detailed catalogue of all magic-using residents and a list of what they can do. In the event that the castle or some other influence makes them hostile, we would have the information to counter them. There is such a wide variety magic here. It has made me wonder if indeed all magic is the same, or merely the method and ability to channel it. Or are some types really different? If we know this, we might be able to combine techniques. On the practical end this would hopefully lead to implementing castle-wide wards to help keep the residents safe. There is also the matter of native magic - the origin of the Dead Zone, the magic of the castle, the magic of native people like Flora. If we understood those things, it may put us a step closer to mastering our own destinies here.

Well if we're going that far, why not try to find out if our combination of magic can get us the heck out of here?

I was attempting to not be overly-enthusiastic, but yes, that would be the end goal as well.

The most important goal if you ask me.

But none of this sounds bad. I'm in.

Excellent. The council is called Chimera, and the headquarters are located at the top of Gaudium Tower - room 1919. I will have a copy of the key sent to your room so you may access it as you like. There isn't much up there at the moment, but that is actually the first task I'd like to put you to. There is a small reference library that needs building on all the copies of magical texts you can aquire. There is also research space for practical work, so if you need any physical materials, please bring in what you need. My first request to the members is to compile a report on their own magic. Somewhat easier to explain what you know that what you don't. Or I should hope.

For my own curiosity, what can you tell me about your own magic?

I think I can start finding things to bring in. I'm gonna be working at the Magick Box II now also.

Well, I'm part witch. My mother was a witch. My powers are telekinetic, and I've also learned a lot about potions and spells. Where I'm from...my sisters and I are considered the most powerful witches of our kind.

[she says that factually, not to brag. She also is leaving out the whitelighter side of herself...for now.]

[It's cool. He's one of the most powerful wizards from his world as well]

What a coincidence. I work there as well.

I am not sure I understand, though, how you can be part witch. Either you have magic or you do not. Or I thought.

I only just started, it's probably why we haven't run into each other yet.

[or...something like that to explain why they hadn't met there...]

My father wasn't a witch. My mother was. I mean...I'm all witch, but...part of me is like my father.

And my mother was not a wizard, yet I am, but she is more part of me than perhaps who I see in the mirror. So what was your father?

justgonnaramble March 1 2011, 00:55:30 UTC
Well when you put it that way, I have non-magical parents that are just as a part of me as the parents who created me. Maybe more.

Non-magical parents? Do tell.

[Also he totally saw that deflection there, Paige, but he'll go with it]

[quiet for a moment, thinking it over before she responds]

When I was born...the relationship between my mother and father was forbidden. So forbidden that they had to hide me. I was adopted. By...really wonderful parents.

[Well, she said her mother was a witch, and considering how many places, even places in his own world, treated magic-users, it wasn't exactly a surprise that having a child with one would be taboo]

I believe I understand, and the details are your own to divulge. I was merely curious about the roots of your power.

But back to my inquiry - labels aside, almost every magic-user I have met here thus far has channeled their power differently. How does yours work?
