Yep, I've already finished school so I don't see why I need to do it again.

Makes perfect sense to me. [pushing up to his feet, he'll make as if to join her when the kid across from him protests]

Hey! What about the game?!

Huh? [a glance down, he'll toss one of the dice so it bounces almost into the kids lap. A losing throw] Look, mate. It's your lucky day. You win.

[attention shifting back to Maya with a smile] So what does a beautiful girl do for fun when getting away from this light-forsaken place?

[she kind of tilts around him to see what game he was playing... eh, but she'll stand back up straight when he compliments her asldkghasd; she grins]

Oh you know, just wandering around. What were you playing?

[she's interested in the game?! Even better. His smile widens a bit] Game called Crowns. None of these woolheads have heard of it before, but they learn quick enough. It's all luck, anyway.

[reaching into a pocket, he'll pull out a few extra dice and do a quick juggling pattern before catching them and passing them over to her] Bit more interesting than those bloody, dotted things they've got in this world.

[each of the dice have images carved onto their faces. A crown, a rose, a rod, a star, a cup, and a diamond]

[ooooh, she'll squat down and look at the dice. exciteddddd]

Woah, these are awesome! How do you play?

[well, alright, then! If she wants to play, he won't complain. He'll drop right back down, setting out the dice on the ground as he explains the rules. The goal, mostly, was to get as many of one symbol as possible. All explained out, it was rather like Yahtzee]

[scooping the dice into a cup and offering it to her]

Sure. Okay, be prepared, I'm probably going to blow you away.

[aaaand she gets two rods, a crown, a star, and two diamonds]

[taking his own dice, he'll roll. two diamonds, a star, a crown and a rose. Since rods ranked higher than diamonds... blew him away she did. Have a grin] Not a bad start at all.

...So what's your name?

Really? I thought I needed to have like... four of the same to do well.

Maya Fey, what's yours?

All you need is to do better than the other guy. [pointing at the dice.] Both of us, best we did was pairs. But your pair was worth more than mine, since rods are worth more than diamonds. Sounds a bit backwards, but that's the way it goes.

[a grin] And I'm Mat Cauthon. [offering a hand] At your service.

But why is a rod worth more then a diamond? Seems like a messed up rating system...

[heh, HANDSHAKE IS A GO] Nice to meet you, Mat.

Maybe because rods were like scepters... belonging to the rulers, you know? Though I'd prefer the diamonds myself.

[he'll shake her hand... but rather than releasing it immediately, he'll raise her hand to his lips to lightly kiss the back of it] Pleasure's all mine.
