Log 075: Classtime

Sep 06, 2010 15:54

[Now Raine will be having classes as scheduled, but she's also decided that it would be far too convenient for some students to skip or "forget" assignments. Instead, she's decided to give them over the journal!]

[Freshmen]
Ancient Egypt revered their pharaohs as gods, as evidenced by their elaborate tombs, carvings, and burial techniques. By mummifying the body, they believed one part of the soul would remain on Earth and enjoy all the riches buried with them, while the higher soul progressed on to the realm of their gods.

1. Compare two other pre-Renaissance Earth cultures that believed their rulers were gods and two that did not.

2. Name two other types of burial monuments and the cultures that used them.

3. Mummified remains have been found in deserts, such as Egypt's, and what other two types of conditions?

Extra Credit: The name "Ozymandias" referred to a certain Pharaoh who is commonly known under a different name. What is his common name?

[Sophomores]
1. Outline the difference between a primary source and a secondary source. What are the circumstances in which a secondary source is more reliable?

2. No historical record is without bias. How would you scan a source for bias and compensate accordingly?

[Juniors]
We are currently located in "Anytown, USA". Summarize a brief probable history of Anytown as if it were:

1. A rural town of the South
2. A farming town of the Midwest
3. An industrial town of the North

[Seniors]
Read the Communist Manifesto and briefly describe three twentieth-century political regimes and how they were influenced by its contents.
