Oh no, I don't believe that at all. How someone is brought up makes a huge difference over their nature. I know that for a fact, first-hand experience, and all that.

Yes, that's true, but ... what if you simply didn't know any better?

Then that's still nurture, rather than nature.

Or lack thereof, you mean?

[for a moment, she just stares at this filter. Really...she's not in the greatest of moods after Priscilla went and pissed her off last night but this is definitely helping to make her feel a bit better. It's something else to focus her attention on for the moment]

Oh? What questions would you have for me "Doctor"?

I only know the barest details of your race ... And I apologize if I offend, because it's hardly my intention, but.

These things you've done, recently ... is it something you felt you needed to do, to survive? I know that being in such a strange, unfamiliar place as this can be overwhelming.

Oh, do you mean the people I ate in town? Or were you perhaps talking about the ones I abducted earlier.

[pushes back his disgust. if she didn't know there were alternatives ... it's their fault for not educating her properly]

Both, if you don't mind.

Mm-hmm... it's a difficult conundrum.

[well, crap. he didn't mean for anyone to hear that, but ... he'll roll with it. acting as though they weren't supposed to hear will just put up red flags - especially with the two who've spoken up. and he ... doesn't really want anyone else getting involved with this little information-search of his]

It really is. And with the influx of vampires and the like, it seems we may have to deal with it more often than usual.

When you can tell the difference, it's a bit easier, isn't it? But intent can be difficult to define, from the outside...

I see no harm in maintaining a dialogue, for that very reason. There should always be an alternative to violence.

Precisely! ... You're a new voice, then. I'm the Doctor - it's a pleasure.

Yeah, but intent and action are two different things. Someone wanting to shoot me in the face is different than someone acting on the intention.

Reply

cricketycricket June 6 2010, 18:20:26 UTC
Yes, but what if that person felt that shooting you in the face was their only option, and was unaware that there were alternatives?

encryptedlock June 6 2010, 18:23:10 UTC
First of all, I'd duck. But this is not a hypothetical question. I lost sight in my eye because Tex's AI shot me - and I didn't lose my head because she managed to control him before it got any worse.

Ah, but you see ... as unfortunate as that was? You're simply helping to prove that even if the action is a reflex, it can be controlled.
