But this wasn't even fear, it was pretty sure knowledge. Based off of precedence, years before, all that. So what's up with that?

Fear can be based on pretty sure knowledge. People fear bad stuff happening because it's happened all the times before, and it's pretty damn sure it'll happen again. Everyone dies eventually and it hurts to lose them, but it don't stop you from making friends does it?
