It seems rather superfluous, since the journal serves a generally similar purpose already.

Not really. Newspapers are a pretty unique reading medium. The journal's more like a live news feed, than anything else. And it's noisy.

Newspapers are a lot more quiet, and they let the reader digest them at their own pace.

... How've you been, Shizuru?

True. Sometimes I wish the journal had a mute button, then my attention wouldn't get attracted all the time by unimportant things.

Been doing fairly well, except I somehow managed to defy conventions of nature and make a stranger pregnant. [dry laugh]

I tend to keep mine closed as much as possible for that exact reason.

... Wait ... you ... you what. [let him 'WTF' over this for a second] Please tell me it was some kind of loss.

The pages tend to flutter open at strange times, though.

...it was some kind of loss. [straightface -- oh wait you can't see it, heh]

They do. I had a paperweight on it once, and it still came open. I guess this place has decided we'll hear things when it damn well wants us to.

[he heard the deadpan, though, and that'll earn her a dry chuckle]

Well, it does keep residents from being complete shut-ins by forcing updates upon them...what happened to the paperweight, if I may ask?

[\mission accomplished!/ someone's got to poke fun at the situation, after all]

Heh. Maybe that's why mine keeps coming open. ... The paperweight? Oh, it just kind of rolled off the desk onto the floor. I'm glad it didn't break, though.

The upside of carpeting, I suppose.

What about you, sir? How have you been?

I didn't really ever think carpeting had a downside.

I'm well. Keeping myself busy... enjoying the downtime before whatever this place decides to throw at us, next.

[...is tempted to say "the downside's pressed against the floor tiles," but she reckons he's had enough lame jokes for now]

The swamp and its wildlife's to your tastes, then?

[mun just LOL'd like crazy - and needed it. THANKYOU. Timmeh would probably not have been as amused, though]

Not necessarily, but ... I don't leave the castle unarmed. So it's nothing I can't handle. ... Tch, never thought I'd be saying that about mutant alligators.

So long as you don't provoke them, they're not too bad. [bias? what?] Did you know that someone's trying to capture one to keep as a pet?

.... Really? Good god. [makes a face, though he's kind of glad she can't see it]

Someone I know said they'll eat pigs. Don't ask me how he knew, he's ... kind of weird like that.

[o_0] Okay, I won't ask.

Perhaps you should be careful around the indoor pool, in any case. I don't know how the capture attempt went.

.... I didn't even know we had a pool.
