[when she awakens, Reinette comes across a strange gift that for once? Causes her to smile. It has been some time since she allowed herself to enjoy archery. She gives it no further thought than that.]
We might yet come to understand each other, this place and I.
[and with resolve she dresses, gathers the arrows, and makes her way outside. A tree

She'll pause when she sees Reinette fire at the tree, watching the arrow sail beautifully through the air]
You're good.

It has been some time since I allowed myself the pleasure. Would you like to try?

I'm Jilly, by the way. [offering her hand]

Jeanne. Though most here call me Reinette.
And does having not done something before always keep you from attempting new things?

[blinks a bit at that... and then grins]
Actually, no. It doesn't.
[And, disregarding that little voice that says castle-gifted arrows are probably not the best ones to learn on, she'll hold out a hand for the bow] I don't know what came over me.

Reinette will serve.
[There is appreciation too, for her intent. She yields the bow and arrows to the other woman]

[awkwardly setting the arrow against the string of the bow, she'll pull back as best as she can. The arrow slips in her hands, not quite holding straight, and she can't help laughing] I don't know how well this will work. I've only seen this done in movies.

Movies?

[the bow shakes a bit as she draws, making the string taut, and she narrows her eyes at the tree Reinette had been shooting at.]
[a glance at her companion] You don't know what movies are?

Am I supposed to?
Reply
Not supposed to. They're just very common where I'm from.
[thinking] Do you know what photographs are?

[is her only observation at the long miss of the target]
I do, thought not of course from France. The Doctor described them to me, and some time ago the castle was littered with them. They contained images from people's pasts. Things they might have not usually shared with one another. It was most inconvenient.

[so she didn't know photographs personally. That meant quite a bit in the past] Well, a movie is a little like telling a story through pictures, only there are so many of them, one right after the other, that the people seem to move. At least, that's how it started. Modern movies would be like watching a play on a stage, except the people aren't actually there. There are machines that can record their actions and voices and replay them for others to see.
[A small frown at the idea of the castle delivering those pictures to everyone. She'd like her secret past to stay secret, thank you very much]

I see.
[And she did see. The explanation was thoughtful and accurate and so Reinette smiled, finally taking the weapon from the other woman's hands]
You explained that quite well. And yes, I know him. At least in this place, I do. I knew him before as well, but for some time I did not remember it. Even now I see him through others memories. I take it you know him as well?

[smiles] I do. I've met two of them... him... actually. His fifth and tenth selves. They've both been incredibly kind.
