so i spent the last two weeks in florida. it was very odd (but nice) being in 80° weather during the holidays.
when i first got there i spent a day with my gramma taking care of things for her. she ruptured another vertebrae and she was in a spot of pain from it.
after that i went to my aunts condo in daytona beach. she lives right on the beach and up on the 21st floor so there was a spectacular view from her balcony. while there i saw dolphins, a whale, a water rescue and dive bombing birds. my room also had a nice view of the intracoastal and i saw the most gorgeous sunsets. being so high up you could sit on the balcony and a pelican or falcon would glide right up and ride a draft not 10 feet from you. crazy!
it was strange being around my aunt again. i havent any kind of a relationship with her since 1995. in fact the last time i saw here five years ago, she was a total bitch to me. i think a few changes in her life have made her reprioritize, so now i feel like she is my aunt again.
after xmas i spent a few more days with my gramma. it was nice to be alone with her again. i feel like my time is becoming limited with her, so 1 on 1 time is precious.
a bit later my mom came up to get me, but stayed an extra day. with her we were able to get more accomplished for my gramma. after that i spent the next week at her pad. she lives right on the beach, and my room had an amazing view of the ocean. her house is about 100 feet from the water, so you can hear the waves crashing all of the time. i enjoyed walking the beach in the morning and was able to find some pretty snazzy shells.
on my last day i went down to boynton beach to get tattooed by the guy that did two pieces on my in denver. he has an amazing eye for detail and with color shading, so my new ink (roses on my ankle) is quite amazing. when its all healed and the swelling goes down ill put up a pic of it. ive decided that i have to go back and get him to do a whole wrap around of roses on my ankle. in fact, i really dont think i want anyone else to tat me.
when i got back to ri i was 1) freezing cold, 2) glad to be back in my bed, and 3) grateful for the time i spent with my family. all in all i had a wonderful time and am very thankful that i get 2 weeks of paid vacation through my job.
