"Do you love me?"
That was the question that startled Hangeng and nearly made him spilled the cup of coffee he was holding in his hand onto the laptop that was humming silently on the island table, as he read the long email his mother had sent him yesterday.
"What did you just say?" Hangeng stared at his boyfriend of four months with wide eyes.
"You never told me you love me." Donghae said with a slight choke. "We've been dating for four months and 16 days. Kyuhyun said that when people who dated that long haven't said those words to each other, they're destined to break up."
Teary-eyed, he asked with a whimper. "We're not breaking up right? You love me don't you?"
Hangeng placed the cup on the table and stared at Donghae thoughtfully.
After a moment of silence, broken only the occasional sobs from Donghae, Hangeng stood up. He walked over to where Donghae stood and extended his hand out in invitation.
"Dance with me."
Donghae stared at the hand wearily, but gingerly took his hand anyway.
The moment he did, Hangeng drew him close to him, until space was a word meant only for people who weren't named Hangeng and Lee Donghae.
They slow-danced in the kitchen for a while, slowly swaying to the rhythm that Hangeng had set. Donghae's head buried deep in Hangeng's shirt and his warm scent when Hangeng leaned in and softly whispered.
"It's all about you."
Before Donghae could look up in confusion, Hangeng tightened his grip on Donghae, ensuring Donghae could not look up and meet his eyes. He wanted Donghae to concentrate on every word he said. No distractions. Not even his eyes. Every senses centered around every syllables he was going to say.
"Whatever Kyuhyun told you, they're all lies. All of it. He said it because he knew you would come to me crying about it. Brat could have given me a warning. I wanted to make the moment special. But I guess now is a good time as any."
He chuckled lightly as he felt Donghae squirming in his embrace, trying to break free.
"Donghae-ah. I. Love. You."
The squirming stopped as the body in his arms froze.
"I love you. Don't you dare question ever question that you hear me?"
Silence reigned before being broken by the most beautiful resonating whisper he had ever heard.
"I love you too."
Hangeng loosened his grip as he leaned back and looked straight into Donghae's eyes. He smiled at Donghae's shy expression as he repeated his words.
"It's all about you."
The indulgent smile and warm eyes were his only answers as he felt Donghae played with their intertwined fingers.
