A normal day in California

Jul 20, 2005 20:56

It rained today, for the first time since I got here. It lasted about 15 minutes, and didn't do anything aside from make the dirt path I take as a shortcut into a mud path. I realized, when I walked outside to leave at the end of the day, that I really miss the smell of rain. I definitely think I would miss weather if I lived here all the time. So, I biked home in the rain. Or rather, in the mud. I got muddy.

I also walked to the grocery store with Nova (my apartment-mate), and on the way back we walked by a hillside practically coated with snails. They were cute, but not as cute as the tiny fearless birds I see everywhere. The snails nearly made up for the half-hour-ish walk with heavy bags of groceries. Talk about encouragement not to buy too much food. I'm going to be healthier than I've ever been by the end of this summer. And tan. O.o

I got free lunch today, in return for listening to Human Resources try to recruit all their summer interns as permanent employees. It was kind of interesting to learn about all the other stuff General Atomics does. They build laser weapons (I think they secretly own the Maw installation) and own a bunch of uranium mines and lots of other stuff... I don't think it would be the greatest place to be a physicist (more engineer-ish), but it really does sound like a great opportunity. And, I mean, they have a pool. And a sand volleyball court.

In conclusion, IDL thought it had me, but I won in the end. Round 47 tomorrow...
