SG-1 9.12 & Atlantis 2.12

just some quick thoughts...

this may have been my favorite season 9 episode to date. it's hard to say. wait, nevermind it doesn't beat out rawhide episode. this had a lot of what this season has lacked, though, and i enjoyed the first contact and no Ori and getting to know Mitchell better. the moral ambiguities of memory technology was interesting and fun to explore. however, Teal'c had... three lines? four? after the ribbing at the party (which was a nice touch) Daniel only came back to deliver a few lines of diplomatic update with his 6' 4'' shadow and Sam was either science exposition or silent. still, i really felt i had been watching SG-1 and not the Prior Show. if the following episodes are of the same quality i might begin to look foward to SG-1 as much as BSG.

still keeping up the stellar episode names i see, Stargate writing team. i was really into this episode for the first half. the sense of urgency and abandonment was really strong and i was able to ignore the little voice that tries to find the references for where Stargate episodes come from (Paradise Lost/Brief Candle). but then Sheppard made it to the village (A Hundred Days) and he was The One (why the Matrix, why) and "the one" to this girl who could see the future (which brings mind something that i can't quite place) and a monster of their own creation (pseudo The Village). basically i wish this was two separate episodes so both ideas could be fully explored- Sheppard alone and believing himself abandoned in this place that has long been empty (ok, maybe that would be TOO Paradise Lost, but that was a good episode and there's the cool "we gotta hurry" on the other side) and a village of people about to ascend, but held back by fear. maybe not with a monster of their own creation. or at least not one so easily defeated.

and Rodney was again wonderful and my reason for watching.

i need more non-Jack icons. which means i need more icons overall.
