Shoot, I didn't write it.
Shoot. I just realized I never got to writing that GP halftime show report I wanted to put down. GP event 4 starts in just an hour, so I'm definitely not going to get there.
And why? I don't even remember all the things I did during the remaining parts of the weekend. I think I watched some movies for a change, and possibly some more skating from earlier.
I sat down to go through MNF's reworked version Monday night after the TV show I watched was over. I limited myself to very few comments and even told myself "whatever" when he didn't implement some of my notes. After all, he stated that he only implemented around 95% of my corrections/suggestions, and I had previously told him that he can do with that whatever he wants. So if you don't want to correct the phrasal verb with the right preposition, I assume it's because you prefer the incorrect one.
Nevertheless I couldn't help myself and had to point out in the e-mail that there are some flaws with the layout (speaking of line alignment to the grid), and I also pointed out to him in the document that I wasn't sure if his negligence of the direct speech quotation mark rules was done on purpose (because he hadn't corrected any of that). Basically, I acknowledged that he probably wants to do it his way and that I just want to make sure that it was intentional and not a slip.
Again I kind of hoped that would be it. That he'd either leave it at that or realize that he'd rather implement the corrections anyway.
Picture my frustration when I opened an e-mail two nights later, an e-mail which again was mostly in English (dude, please, no ... ), and which mostly said "what do you mean?" In a nutshell.
"But don't I have to ... " NO YOU DON'T, I HAVE ALREADY EXPLAINED THE PROPER WAY TO WRITE DIRECT SPEECH IN MY FIRST CORRECTION!
"But isn't the empty line at the end of the page because ... " YES FFS, THAT'S WHY IT IS THERE, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN THAT IT SHOULD STAY THERE! LAYOUT DESIGN 101! HAVE A PROPER LAYOUT THAT FILLS THE ENTIRE TYPE AREA!
"Indent missing - what do you mean?" THAT YOU FORGOT TO INDENT THE FIRST LINE OF THIS NEW PARAGRAPH, FFS!
"Lines at the same height on both sides of the double page, what do you ... " UGH!!!
No clue how he took my reply I wrote Wednesday night. LOL I was rather pissed and collected a couple of grammar and layouting 101 websites to send over to him, even took a picture of a novel to illustrate my points. I wrote some of my replies in English as well, hoping that'll make him understand. :0P Also, I advised him to grab a book and compare if any of the issues I pointed out to him can be found in that printed book. >:0) Hell, that's not very difficult to understand, is it? Open your eyes and see for yourself. It's so obvious!
I know I'm very much a perfectionist, and I know I wouldn't have ignored some of the omitted corrections if this had been something I was in charge of (like when I went back and forth with the graphics girls at the publishing company I used to work for). But he seemed so sure that everything was almost ready, so be it ready. Yet now I'm afraid that my last e-mail, which accused him of ignoring basic layouting techniques rather directly, might lead him to re-design the entire thing. Which would be good for the result as it would make his publication appear more professional and less of a Word document put to print. But I'm also sure he'd ask me to look. At. It. Yet. Again.
What aggravated me the most was that he obviously didn't read my comments in the first version close enough, or didn't understand them because I made no sense to him. I had put down a remark about all these topics right away. And yet, when I mentioned the same flaws AGAIN, he had no clue what I was talking about and why.
Final side note: I noticed he translated some of my comments in the document into English. I suppose he's really not making the corrections in the document himself, but handing it in for someone else to implement. And that's probably what he meant after saying after the first correction that he had submitted everything. He should add some context to what he's saying. Had he told me in advance that someone else (who doesn't speak German) would have to implement the corrections, I could of course have added my remarks in English as well. But he didn't say anything. Have I ever mentioned how I hate missing context?
I'll fix dinner now and then continue my evening watching TV and skating. Maybe my dad will call as well after not having managed to squeeze that in for weeks.
