2017 Skate America: The Pairs and the Men in the Shorts.

Nov 25, 2017 13:41

Skate America has a strange event layout for a GP. The dancers and the ladies only start when the other two competitions are already completed. Therefore there won't be the usual SP/LP posts this time, but I'll put the pairs and the men in here.

Pairs' SP:
  • Stellato and Bartholomay skated to "Eleanor Rigby." You can give me that music any day. :0)
  • Kirsten Moore-Towers fell on the SBS jump, and Alexa Scimeca Knierim did the same. I guess the former was hoping for a bit more than 7th place after that bronze (they actually have to skate first in the LP).
  • The second warm-up group was in another league compared to group 1. Yu and Zhang were extremely strong (2nd); Zabiiako and Enbert were clean, but boring (4th); Duhamel and Radford were just a little scratchy, but delivered (1st).
  • If you've done the math, you'll know that Savchenko and Massot are in third place as of now. I think the program has already improved - their presentation was stunning. Unfortunately Bruno fell on the 3S, plus they only got level 4 for the twist and the lift, but not for the death spiral, the spin or the footwork. The 3ATh attempt is no more: they did a perfectly clean 3LzTh (according to the protocols; I had no idea they were doing the Lutz throw). They're less than 3 points behind the Canadians, though. Tomorrow will be exciting. :0) Speaking of which, Bruno finally passed the citizenship test! :0D :0D :0D I'm so glad that pressure's off him now. Now go get your jumps back!
  • On a side note, it was really nice to see John Kerr in the K&C with the Germans. :0)
Men's SP:
  • Finally saw Roman Sadovsky. Didn't look too bad, but not too exciting, either. He's in 9th place, leading the pack of 3 Canadian skaters (meaning Reynolds and Firus didn't do too well).
  • Maxim Kovtun apparently had an injury and therefore had to pull out of Skate Canada. He's really far from his old self at the moment.because nothing really works. His flamenco SP could be nice, though. Last place.
  • I enjoyed Han Yan a lot. He did have a fall on his quad, but it was an SB and he's currently in 4th place!
  • Popped Axels were a problem today. Boyang Jin was one of those suffering from that, plus he had also simplified his program and only showed one quad because he's not completely back on track after an injury, either. He's only in 6th place now.
  • Daniel Samohin performed quite well despite a fall - 5th place. His "bows" with showing off his muscles after his "It's A Man's Wold" program also didn't look totally out of place this time.
  • There were three clean skates, and those are also the ones in the podium spots so far: Voronov, Adam and Nathan. I particularly enjoyed the two Americans, who were so pleasing to watch. Nathan's SP is a masterpiece, and he is so far off in the lead with his 104 points (a PB) that he's basically won already. It seems he had some blade problems, though, but obviously didn't care. Oh right, Adam is actually ahead of Sergei Voronov - what a place to be in! :0)
