We got a kitty!

We adopted her from the humane society. She is about a year old and is 'tortoise shell' in coloring, which is a cat-word for what in dogs is called 'brindle.' She has half an orange face and half a black one, roughly. She has no name yet that we've picked; we're likely to go with 'baby' if we can't think of a good one.
So far, she's not bothering my allergies too much. We thought it might be ok because my dad's cat doesn't bother me as much as many cats do, so we tried to find one with similar fur traits.
Hope that sticks; would like to give her a good home here. She's kinda timid and shy but has really warmed up to both of us (we're already her pets, I think, as she treads across our laps on a whim and will nudge a hand if she wants pettins. She'll also zip frantically across the house if one of us comes down the hall and frightens her, so she's got some adjusting to do. We're probably a good fit for her because we've no other pets (except a betta) and no kids, so less stimulus to cause panic.
Her favorite things seem to be her litterbox (not a bad start for a fave) and our living room floor. She just stretches out on it and rolls around, then miaows for pettins if she wants them. She has a funny little complaint miaow she makes when we tell her no, she can't go up on the countertops, or no, she can't go into our bedroom, and she'll sit there all indignant and pathetic and miaow plaintively/complainingly. Overall she's already got a pretty good idea of what we do and don't want her to be doing; we'll just need to keep up the reminders and hope she decides to indulge us by cooperating. ^^

I love cats. I am so happy to have a kitty again. Even if she does make my nose run a little. Maybe someday soon she'll have a name of her own, too.
