meet the new computer in the house
that's right -- for the first time since 1994 i own a brand NEW, never owned by anyone before me computer! she's (yes, my computer is female, my car is male, so what?) a HP p6120f multi-media computer with a nice amount of bells and whistles...
and, unfortunately, Windows Vista. so far i am unimpressed. still, i'm managing, and i'm not afraid to explore and tweak things -- or to install open source software in place of the seriously unsecured and annoying IE for my internet browsing needs.
still to do? install AVG and SpyBot Search and Destroy, then figure out how to network Yuuko and Kiriko (Yuuko is the old machine, Kiriko is the new one) and get all of my files off of Yuuko. in theory i can do it by using my one monitor for both machines i just don't know how. once i've done that, i'll be cleaning Yuuko up thoroughly, taking off any and all programs and files that are unneeded (read WinSCP3, PhotoShop, my personal files) and bundling her up to be given to one of my co-workers. it's a nifty deal for her. she gets a super-mini-tower with newly cleaned and defragged 250 Gb harddrive, keyboard, optical mouse, and wireless antenna thing. all she needs is a monitor and speakers.
the weirdest thing to adjust to it the new keyboard. it's nice and quiet, though. and damn but the fan and processor are SILENT. it's so incredible, just getting to HEAR things.
