Paris Trip Day 2 (contunied): The FIAP and The Effiel Tower

Yes, I know I'm terribly behind on journal entries so I will try to shorten things a bit.

Okay so we got to the FIAP just in time for lunch and then we decided to lounge around the courtyard until we got our rooms. Three o'clock came around and we recieved our keys. (Me and Cat are in room 319, btw) We opened the door and found to our great surprise that the room was very comfortable for we each had a bed, pillow, desk and closet cabinet. I was also thrilled to find that we had our own toilet and shower and that we didn't have to share the bath with another room. By this time I was quite ready to crash, but amazingly enough Cat convinced me to unpack a little. However, after about half of my things were put away, I could wait no longer and I experienced pure bliss after I was finally allowed to stretch out and go to sleep. We woke up around 7:00p so that we could eat and then the whole UL group boarded the metro to exprience our first outing in Paris. And where do you go when in Paris? Why the Effiel Tower of course, and it sure was a a breath taking moment when I first saw it for I could no longer deny that I truly was in Paris.

Now surprising as it sounds, the tower actually looks quite skinny from far away. But when you finally get under the thing, you can't help but have your jaw drop because the base is truly massive. Its a fantastic piece of architecture, of course, but I particulary love the slant of the four base legs which stand on stone pesdestals as if to say that this is definately more sculpture than buildings. Everyone snapped a lot of pictures of course and the professors popped open some wine and we drank it to celebrate our arrival. (Of course, neither I nor Cat likes wine so we took a few sips, shuddered, and through the rest away when no one was looking.) The sun began to set (by the way the sun doesn't set until 9:00p over here.) And the tower was lit by thousands of sparkling lights. It was very pretty indeed. We didn't try to ride to the top, however because the lines were so long and so Cat and I walked around and admired the gardens for a little while. The group split up and we got back on the metro, returned to the FIAP and crashed. All in all, it was a very busy day.
