Bondage Ball

So, that sucked.

After a series of manipulative and unprofessional actions by the promotor, I ended up working my ass off to create a fairly lackluster performance. Weird how seriously the Bondage Ball contrasts with Bondcon.

Essential we (Severe Society) were asked to do the same thing for both shows: provide dungeon furniture and perform. At Bondcon we had the added responsibility of monitoring the play party.

With Bondcon, we had good support from the organizers and were treated as respected equals. In the case of the Bondage Ball, we were treated the same way as we have been by the promoter in every interaction: like he is somehow doing us a favor by letting us work for him.

In both cases we traded labor, knowledge, and access to specialized equipment for promotion. In the case of Bondcon our banner was on their website within two days, we were given two booths, and we had a half page ad in the program, which I wasn't even required to design. In the case of the Bondage Ball our internet banner went up the day of the event and we were allowed to hang our banner.

In both cases I had to pick up the furniture in a truck, deliver it to the venue, and return it after the event. I had some issues with pickup and return with Bondcon, but the complications in that case were entirely outside of the Bondcon organizer's control. In the case of the Bondage Ball, the day before the event I received a phonecall stating that the truck had not yet been reserved or rented and that I needed to find a truck to pick up that afternoon. This meant that I had to take a smaller truck (10' instead of the 15' that we needed) that has to be returned tomorrow before 10:00 am to a place out of my way, and that I had to rent the truck exposing me to liability that should not be mine.

As for the show itself, I am extremely disappointed. Individuals produced good scenes (or parts of scenes), but as a whole we were unimpessive. If I was a promoter, I wouldn't hire us based on that performance.

Fuck it. You can't win 'em all.
