I was reading a blog about how the word "gay" has been stolen by the homosexual community... how it used to be good word, and blah blah blah. Dumb people complain about this a lot, as if they're used to throwing the word "gay" around, and now they can't. Maybe back in 1923, pal, but newsflash: words change. I work with kids between the ages of 6 and 18. The middle- and high-schoolers really like to use "gay" and "retard" as a negative slang. They know that when I'm working, they need to find a different, more appropriate word to use.

It's true these aren't "good" words to use, but I think in the minds of the kids (most of them anyway) it doesn't even mean the same thing as it used to. Kind of like how "bad" meant "good" back in the 80s.
