Dresses Galore

Aug 01, 2009 02:36

So, now that the dress that I wanted is on sale for half off, I decided to pick that one up too :O I can't use the 20% off coupon they gave me before, but I guess I would've purchased this dress instead if it was 80 bucks. I don't want to return the other dress either after the price adjusted to 50. Oh well :D I'm such a sucker for sales...

I finally got my act together somewhat and started my vanilla extract project. I have two honest tea bottles filled with organic vodka, and each one has 10 grade B beans in it (one Tahitian and one Bourbon.) I split the beans hoping it'll speed up the process, then left the bottles out on the counter so I'll remember to shake them once in a while. I guess this is still 32oz of extract. There's enough vodka left for a couple of drinks!

Mom called me last week and asked me to help her do her homework, my bad for offering to help her research :( I ended up writing a paper on a topic I knew almost nothing about, and I dragged Odi in to help me with it. Odi was joking that mom's making me repay her for buying me that coach handbag :(

Odi had a conference in SF this Monday, so I went with him and spent the day there. He first dropped me off in China town, and I (willingly) went to visit the herbalist at Great China Herb Co.. After I picked up my prescription and a few items for mom, I went to the wok shop and got myself a nice big cleaver. Now mom can't complain about how she can't make whole chickens since I don't have a knife big enough to chop through the bones :D I was feeling bad that I didn't bring my canvas tote, and the stuff was getting heavy :(

After that I decided to make my way towards Union Square, and I picked up some chocolate on the way. After walking into Crate and Barrel and picking up a set of these bowls (on sale!) I had my hands full and sat around until Odi was ready for lunch. We couldn't figure out a place in Chinatown we wanted to visit, so we headed to the SF ferry building to visit Boccalone. We saw that place on an episode of the Best Thing I Ever Ate and wanted to try their prosciutto. Mmm, prosciutto.

One prosciutto cone and one salumi cone later, I wanted something lighter that doesn't involve more sliced cured meats. We walked around the whole place several times, then settled on DELICA rf-1 (weird coloring and italics...) for a mostly veggie lunch plate for me and a beef curry for Odi. I decided that Odi can just leave me here for a couple of hours while he heads back to the conference for a bit, so I went to the bookstore to purchase a book. I saw In Defense of Food and was ready to pick that up since Theofrid was telling me about reading The Omnivore's Dilemma, but I saw Jhumpa Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth and got that instead. She's one of the Asian American writers that my Asian American Lit class introduced back in college, and so far this book is alright.

I took the book and an iced caramel latte outside for a while, then found me a seat with a view of the bay bridge. I would've stayed longer if it weren't a bit chilly and I had a dress on :( I picked up some prosciutto, melon, and madeleines before Odi came to pick me up. Too bad it was still early, else we could go down to San Mateo and have a sushi dinner before heading home :D

Odi and I will be going down to LA next Friday for Smack's wedding, and I'm going to meet up with a couple of folks from one of my LotRO kins while I'm there. I already got my eyebrows threaded which was quick and inexpensive, but my right eyebrow stung for a while and Odi thinks my eyebrows are thin. I made an appointment for my hair next Thursday since it's time to get a haircut again... my hair's down to my boobs again (but not quite long enough to donate this time without cutting it above my chin, boo) Maybe I'll actually look halfway decent for this wedding :)
