The day, their new teacher stepped through the doors of class 3b's classroom, the world changed for Kibum he just didn't know yet.

Kim Jonghyun, history and music teacher, with a smug grin, perfectly styled hair and an attitude as if the world was his playground turned Kibum's life upside down.

He was one of those teachres that were loved by students. He was admired for his attitude, but admittedly also for his good looks, the perfectly toned body and the big, beautiful eyes. He was easy-going, his classes the most fun in the whole school, life was something funny and enjoyable for him and you could tell at just one glance that he savoured every second of it.

Everyone liked him, the crush of nearly every girl in school and the buddy of nearly every boy in school, Kibum however didn't seem to be interested in his new teacher.

Kibum was a silent boy, taking life too seriously for a normal high school student. He spent his time with reading, studying and listening to music. No friends, no hobbies and no joy.

Bullying had made him the person he was now, unable to trust people. Friends didn’t matter for him and he long ago learned to ignore the comments of the people calling him a “fag”. Kibum wouldn’t care if a car would drive him over or something else would take his life away, still he saw no point in committing suicide, thinking of it as something only weak people would do. He lived his life quietly, emotions shut away as much as they could be, his attitude pretty much of someone who didn’t care about anything.

The teachers however were not really fond of Kibum’s attitude. Sure, he was a good student, always being one of the top 50 students, still it was quite confusing and nerve-wrecking for a teacher to try teaching someone who had as much interest in lessons as a frog would have for vegetables. So, fed up with Kibum’s attitude, they decided to send him to their school’s beloved counsellor, who was no one else than Kim Jonghyun Kibum’s a little bit too easy-going history and music teacher with the smug grin and the perfectly styled hair.

---

Kibum crushed the piece of paper, informing him of when, where and why he should go to the counselling room, cursing under his breath. Seriously, he tried nothing but not to attract attention and now as he was trying to be as inconspicuous as possible he managed to attract the attention he never wanted. But, knowing that just skipping this counselling would get him into even deeper shit he had no other choice but to pack his things after class and walk down the hallway to the classroom at the end of it instead of going to the lockers and pack his things before going home like everyone else would.

He fixed his school uniform, taking one last deep breath and knocked against the door, awaiting the soon following “please come in”. He stepped in and quickly scanned the room, decorated with pictures and posters other students probably had made, before fixing his gaze on his teacher sitting on the one of the couches that were standing in the middle of the room. He smiled at Kibum -one of those pointless smiles people would show others to appear nice- and stood up. Kibum, not seeing any sense in returning the smile just bowed slightly and sat down on the couch, Kim Jonghyun motioned him to sit on. He was now facing the teacher whose brightness made Kibum feel like throwing up.

Jonghuyn looked down on a few papers, scanning them and then fixed his gaze one Kibum again, this time not smiling.

“Kibum..-“

“Key.” The counsellor gave him a questioning look, but continued nonetheless.

“Key... I’m your counsellor Kim Jonhyun how you probably already know. Please call me Jonghyun. In this room you don’t have to see me as a teacher but as a friend.”

Yeah right, friend. Kibum nodded, keeping every stupid comment coming to mind to himself, he after all wanted it to end quickly.

“So, Kib-..Key, do you know why you are here?”

“The student is conspicuously uninterested in every teacher’s lesson, he also shows a disconcerting amount of autism.” Kibum smiled bitterly as he read out loud what was written on the paper his home room teacher gave him. Autism. Sure, he never really talked to anyone in school, still it was a bit exaggerated to assume he was autistic.

“I didn’t ask you to read what the paper says I asked you if you know why you are here.”

Jonghyun took out a notebook, scribbling a few things down and then directed his attention back to Kibum, who was now not only irritated but seriously and obviously pissed.

“Look, Mister I’m-the-happiest-and-best-teacher-on-earth-and-think-I-have-the-right-to-meddle-with-my-student’s-business.” Kibum didn’t care if he was insulting a teacher right now. “I don’t think whether I’m quiet, talk to my classmates and am interested in the lessons or not is any of your business. If I need a counsellor and you are so desperate to help some students I’ll make sure to talk to you as soon as I feel the need to, but at the moment I don’t and it’s my teachers’ problem if they feel irritated that I don’t show interest in their lessons or not, as long as I have good grades and if it bothers them too much how about them going to the counsellor, because honestly I have a better way to use my time.” and Kibum stood up, taking his things and stormed out of the room.

Where the hell do the teachers take the right to judge his mental stage? Who the hell do they think they are? They know nothing about him, nothing and Kibum would like to keep it that way.

---

Jonghyun stared at his student’s retreating back, a little bit dumbfounded. He sat a few minutes in silence, letting what had happened sink in and he smiled.

This would be interesting.

---

Birds in all kinds of sizes and forms were flying around, the red light of the disappearing sun giving the whole scenery something unreal and beautiful, even though it was a normally simple view from his seat in the classroom. Still, he found himself lost in the scenery, completely blending out the unimportant blabbering from his teacher as he let his thoughts wander. He wondered what it would feel like to be one of those birds, flying in freedom, enjoying the simplicity of its life. Kibum sighed, birds didn’t have to sit in a smelly classroom, listening to some people talk about uninteresting things, birds didn’t have to have good grades so that they would be able to live a good life in future, birds didn’t have-

“Is there any reason to let out such an exaggerated sigh in my lesson, Kibum?”

Kibum just stared at his teachers face, blankly, not thinking that he needed to respond this question. He counted the wrinkles in her face and came to the conclusion that this teacher was certainly not taking care of her skin or at least not as much as Kibum did. Even if he never did have real hobbies he found his passion in taking care of his body and he was -admittedly- a little bit vain and he honestly didn’t care if he would be called priggish as long as his skin wouldn’t look like his teacher’s when he was in his thirties.

Ms. Park -his teacher- seemed to be a little bit irritated by the way Kibum was intensely staring at her face and since she didn’t expect him to answer she turned around and walked back to her front-desk.

“Kibum, I would like to talk to you after class.” With that she dismissed Kibum into his dreamland and continued her lessons.

---

“You had your first meeting with teacher Kim yesterday right Kibum?”

“Key.” She blinked and nodded.

“He told us that you didn’t seem willing to receive his help, also you stormed out of the counselling room without him dismissing you.” She sighed, massaging her temples.

“Kibum...-“

“Key.”

“Key, I understand that you feel insulted, but you have to understand my and the other teacher’s concern. We don’t mean to offend you with our demand for you to go to our counsellor, we just want to help you and if you are unwilling to accept our help we feel obliged to contact your parents.” Kibum grit his teeth, they were really trying to force him into this stupid counselling.

“Are you willing to go or not?” At that moment he really resisted the urge to punch something or rather someone and his thoughts surprised himself because he was everything else but not aggressive.

“I’ll go” he hissed and swung his backpack over, giving his teacher one last hateful glance before leaving the classroom.

---

Once again he sat in the room, facing Kim Jonghyun the counsellor that seemed a lot more dislikeable than before, the same pictures and posters that seemed a lot uglier than before decorating the room. Kibum’s mood was at point zero and he sat there on the old couch, sulking as Jonghyun watched him with a mix of amusement and pity.

“I’m sorry that you have to go to this counselling and that it is somehow my fault that they wanted to force you into it, but I promise: we will have a lot of fun.”

“Oh yeah, being treated like a mentally ill person is ALWAYS a lot of fun.” Kibum scoffed, folding his arms in front of his chest. Jonghyun smiled and reached a hand behind his head, scratching it a little. “I don’t think of it as treating a mentally ill person, to make it clear: you are NOT mentally ill, we just thought that you could need someone to talk to, you know like talking about your problems, opening up to someone....” Kibum snorted, seriously if he wanted to talk he would talk to anyone but not the person sitting in front of him.

“I’m sorry Key, but it seems like you’ll have to stick with me until you open up to me and talk, so if you want to get this done quickly just open your mouth. It’s not that difficult, believe me.”

He smiled to himself because he as much as he hated the thought of wasting his time with this teacher was practically invited into a battle of willpower and that was a battle Kibum never would want to lose and this teacher was sooo not gonna get through to him.

“We’ll see” and once again Kibum stood up without having the permission to and walked out of the room, leaving his teacher behind.

---

When Kibum entered the apartment he nearly jumped out of his skin, because of his mother suddenly appearing behind him, arms folded in front of her chest, eyes cold.

“M-mum you’re here early.”

“Where have you been?” Kibum flinched a little at his mother’s harsh tone.

“U-um I’m part of a club now.” He stuttered, fiddling with his keys, his mother was the only one in this whole world that could make him so nervous.

“What kind of club?”

“We help students who have problems.” His mother eyed him suspiciously.

“Okay, but please don’t waste too much time on those kinds of students, if you are not careful they will take you down with them and you are already bad enough in school. I have to go now, do your homework and don’t oversleep.” Kibum nodded and his mother left him alone. Alone in the cold apartment, the one he was always alone in. Alone.

---

The next day at school just didn't want to end and the thought of staying longer was making time pass so slow that he wondered if some superhuman being slowed the world down.

But the time when the bell rang came and Kibum took all the time he had to pack his things, being the last student to leave the classroom and he slowly dragged his feet to the detested room he had to spend the next hour in.

Jonghyun was already sitting on his usual spot on the couch, scanning a pile of papers in his lap. He looked up, smiling at Kibum and nodding in the direction of the couch the other always sat on.

He made himself comfortable on it leaning back into the fluffy surface and waited for Jonghyun to finish whatever he was doing.

When Jonghyun finally stuffed the papers into his bag, Kibum was already impatiently tapping his fingers against the couch, looking a little bit nerved. Jonghyun just smiled a little, sitting back into the couch and watched Kibum as he was constantly checking his watch.

“You know, we can sit here for an hour waiting for you to start talking or something or you talk, I help you and all your teachers will be happy and we can go. If you don’t feel like doing anything of that you can also suggest a game we could play or something.” Kibum snorted, Jonghyun really did a good job in making him open up to him.

Being the competitive and stubborn boy he was Kibum decided to start a staring contest of patience with Jonghyun, waiting for the hour to pass by.

Time surprisingly flew by as Kibum stared at Jonghyun and when he was finally released he smirked at the counsellor, obviously proud of his “victory”and left, feeling much more motivated to go to those counselling sessions than before.

---

The staring competitions continued on, every day after school for one hour and Kibum didn’t think as of such a nuisance any more, actually enjoying staring into his teacher's funnily dumb puppy-eyes.

Jonghyun however was not really happy with the lack of progress they were making and because he found that Key seemed to be an interesting boy he decided to invest more time and thought into his counselling.

---

One morning Kibum found a pink sticky post in his locker. There was written in an unmistakably ugly writing that he should meet up with Jonghyun after his last lesson in the coffee-shop in front of the school.

He frowned, what the hell was going on in that teachers mind?

He went there anyway, even if he thought it was stupid he had no other choice and when he stepped into the bright, warm shop he immediately spotted Jonghyun waving at him like a child. He was sitting in the left corner on a big table Kibum walked to the table looking at Jonghyun with a WTF-expression. The older smiled stupidly as Kibum sat down, hopping up and down in his seat as he waited for the other to make himself comfortable.

Kibum raised an eyebrow, feeling a little bit uneasy at his teacher’s excitement.

“What?” he asked, as the other looked at him expectantly. Jonghyun’s grin widened and the sparkle in his eyes was a little bit scary.

“You’re gonna meet my friends.”

“What?!”

“You’re gonna meet my friends.” Jonghyun repeated slowly as if Kibum was some dumb kid.

“I don’t want to meet them.” Kibum answered bluntly; there was no way in hell he would want to meet a bunch of people who were probably as dumb as his teacher.

“Awwww...come on Kibummie..”

“It’s Key and if you ever call me “Kibummie” -he imitated Jonghyun while he said that- again I’m gonna kill your balls even if you are my teacher.”

“Awww don’t be sooo mean KEY. You’ll like them.” And as if on cue the small shop’s door opened and two men, one with a smile that looked even more stupid than Jonghyun’s and one who looked like a gigantic mix of a human and a frog entered, immediately making their way towards them.

Great, more weirdoes.

---

Now they were sitting on the table, Kibum sipping his tee quietly, sandwiched between the wall and the giant human-frog that had introduced himself as Minho, Jonghyun listening to his happily blabbering friend called Jinki who’s stupid -and annoying- grin was still plastered on his lips.

Jinki looked at Kibum, the smile still plastered on his lips.

“So this is-”

“Kibum.”

“Key.” Kibum corrected Jonghyun.

“So Key, you are Jonghyun's-”

“Cousin.” Kibum shot Jonghyun a questioning look, the other quickly ignoring it.

“It's nice to meet you, I always wanted to know a little bit about Jjong's family, so tell me how is he with his them?” Instead of answering, Kibum chose to stare, making the other's smile falter.

He understood that Jonghyun wanted to keep it a secret that he was his student and he was even a little bit grateful for it but he saw no point in making up some stories, he hated lying.

“I'm sorry, he is a little weird, but he is a really nice person.” Jonghyun said apologetically and winked at Kibum as he did.

“Haha that's totally okay, I guess he is as socially awkward as I was when I was younger.” Jinki laughed out loud, his smile looking as if it could rip his face apart any minute and he reached out to ruffle Kibum's hair. The younger quickly slapped the hand away, glaring at the other person and fixed his hair, grumbling some not understandable things. The others laughed, Jonghyun grinned and the rest of the evening was spent like that. Jonghyun watching Kibum, Minho not saying anything only if he was directly asked to speak and Jinki awkwardly trying to get to know Kibum in between playfully teasing him and Kibum seriously didn't mind, even if he grumbled some curses here and there, he could feel that the other was nice and didn't mean to make fun of him and even if he would never admit it to himself he enjoyed the evening.

The time passed quickly and soon it was dark and Kibum groaned out loud at the thought of facing his mother and a pile of homework at home. He stood up, saying that he had to go home now and Jinki waved at him warmly, saying that he hoped he could see him again. Minho nodded at him, a small smile on his lips. Jonghyun however instead of just saying goodbye insisted on bringing Kibum home and soon he was sitting in the older ones car, next to the driver's seat, fumbling with his hair.

Jonghyun sat down, taking a cigarette out of his pocket lighting it and inhaling deeply, letting out a sigh of relief as he did.

“You shouldn't do that.” Jonghyun looked at him a little surprised and then smiled apologetically as he opened the window.

“I know, I wish I could stop, but you know....dugs. You are just addicted to them and it is hard to let go.” Kibum nodded understandably turning his head to look out of the window, he never had tried drugs, he never wanted to. The thought of being addicted to something was just too scary to him, the thought of something taking a part of his freedom was scary. He turned his head again meeting the other's intense gaze and it was a bit creepy, being stared at by a teacher.

“You are staring.” Jonghyun looked away slowly, smiling, no hint of embarrassment evident.

“You were smiling in the coffee shop.”

“What?”

“You were smiling. You are pretty when you smile.” at that moment Kibum thanked god that the light in the car was off, hiding the dangerously red blush on his face.

“W-what a-are you talking about? I-I'm always pretty.” Kibum's try to respond cockily was a failure. He stuttered, he fucking stuttered! Except for his mother there was no person that could make him stutter! Kibum cursed himself and Jonghyun just smiled at him, tossing his finished cigarette out of the opened window, so that he could start the car.

The ride was silent, the only sounds audible were the humming of the engine and the splattering of rain against the car's windows. Kibum forced himself to look out of the window, not wanting to stare at his teacher, who was driving the car, humming a beautiful melody. When they arrived Kibum immediately wanted to get out, but couldn't because he was held back as Jonghyun grasped his wrist. Kibum looked at his teacher, who was smirking at him and leaning close - a little bit too close for Kibum's taste- to the younger one's ear.

“It's unfriendly to just leave... Kibummie. Tomorrow after your last lesson on the roof of our school okay?” Kibum was torn between hitting his teacher and just staying calm, he decided for the latter and just nodded. “Good.” the breath against his ear made Kibum shiver a little and he only prayed that his teacher didn't notice. Jonghyun brushed his lips against Kibum's cheek and opened the door for him, leaning extremely close to the student, making him blush and run out of the car, leaving Jonghyun with a grin behind.

---

Kibum slammed the door to his room shut, inhaling deeply and let himself fall on the ground, his hands clutching his chest where his hammering heart was on the verge of exploding.

Stupid teacher!

Kibum let his fingers wander over his ear and then to his cheek, feeling the blood rushing to is face.

Or maybe, just maybe he was not such a stupid teacher.
