However, what if the two don't get along? Junsu, with his over conceited attitude and uncaring personality, continues to annoy Yoochun. Yoochun, with his kind nature and helpful character, holds his anger in. Soon the two men will find themselves in need of one another, something they didn't expect could happen.

[Ch: 1][Ch: 2]

Junsu jumped into his bed. He grabbed a pillow in the vicinity and screamed in it.

“ARG!!” his neck veins popped out from his muffled scream. “Why must this happen to me? Did I do anything wrong?”

“Well, for starters, you are talking to yourself.” Yoochun said as he leaned beside the door frame. Junsu’s eyes squinted into slits.

“Why are you here? And who gives you the right to comfortably speak to me and barge in my room?” Junsu said angrily.

Yoochun chuckled. “Your father…Since I am your guardian now.” As his foot stepped into Junsu’s room, Yoochun’s face collided with a pillow. His head snapped back from the force of the projectile. He shook his head, clearly dazed from something so soft yet thrown so hard.

“Don’t you dare step into my room! Guardian or not, this is my room and I have the right to decide who I let in and let out. Clearly you know the choice.” Junsu stepped out of his bed and went to Yoochun. He pushed with all his might. Yoochun, enjoying the weak effort to push him away, gave in.

The door slammed in front of Yoochun’s face and he sighed. He looked at the two guards on either side of the door. “Does he act like this every time?” he asked.

“Depends on who it is.” The first guard looked at him.

The second guard smiled. “Unbelievably, you are not the first he has actually kicked out of his room.”

Yoochun smiled back and turned his face towards the door again. ‘Well this might be fun.’

Yoochun entered his parents’ house. He looked and saw his mother quietly setting up the table.

“Hey mom.”

Mei looked up and smiled. She went forward to her son and hugged him deeply. She then saw that Kwang was behind him. She let go and met Kwang.

Yoochun went and sat at the table, his mind circulating many thoughts. This is what he was trained for. What he prepared for when he was enlisted. At last his expertise was going to be used. And that was babysitting.

He scowled at the thought. Mei walked in the moment he scowled. “Something happened during your visit at the palace?”

Yoochun looked behind his mother and looked at his dad. Kwang shook his head slowly.

“Nothing mom. Just tired is all.” He then excused himself from the table. He said goodbye to his parents and went ahead to his tent near the base.

As he walked past the market, he noticed that the stalls were preparing to pack up. The ominous rumble of the dark sky signaled passing rain was about to come. He came across the stall shop in which he met Junsu a few hours ago.

As he walked around the now closed shop, a twinkle caught his eye. The street lamp illuminated a necklace on the ground. He went towards it and picked it up. The necklace was made of silver that twinkled when it caught light. Attached to the necklace was a golden feather.

He decided to keep it. He liked it somehow. Something very unique yet commonly seen. He pocketed it and walked on.

Junsu’s blanket was pulled out from his body. His body shivered from the sudden temperature change. “Mmm…give me back my blankets.” he grumbled.

“No thank you. I’d like you to wake up properly instead of lying lazily there.”

Junsu’s eyes snapped open. The voice was disgustingly familiar to him. He sat up and looked around the dark room. He tried squinting to get a better vision. He saw some movement around the corner of the room and the curtains were pulled quickly. The sudden brightness temporarily blinded Junsu. He wasn’t given enough time to get his eyes used to the brightness.

He blinked and saw the silhouette of a man. He rubbed his eyes and refocused. His guesses were confirmed. “What are you doing here?” his voice sounded icy due to the unwanted wake-up call and the man standing in front of him.

“Well, since I am in charge of guarding you from ‘potential’ enemies, I have to be with you the whole time.” Yoochun said, clearly enjoying his position.

“Where are the maids?” Junsu asked, now realizing it was only Yoochun in the room.

Yoochun walked around Junsu’s bed and leaned against the wall. “I sent them away. I told them that you didn’t need them today.”

Junsu was getting annoyed. “Who the hell said that? I know I didn’t.”

“Well just change already. Your father told me a neighboring family is coming over.” Yoochun said, oblivious to the comment Junsu just said.

Junsu was a bit interested. “Who are they?”

“Well, they have the same last name as you. Kim.” Yoochun said.

Junsu’s eyes widened. One of his only friends was coming. He quickly stood up and stretched his arms out. His eyes were closed and then he realized no arms were helping him change. He opened his eyes and saw a laughing Yoochun.

“What are you laughing at?” Junsu felt defeated. He forgot that his maids were sent away by his ‘pet’. The word ringed around his head. ‘Pet? Father never said that I can’t order him around right?’ Soon Junsu’s attitude became lighter. He was going to give hell to Yoochun later.

A blonde headed boy walked through the corridors of TaeHyun’s palace. His features were quite striking at first glance. The low cut hairstyle accented his looks. For anyone, their first look at this boy would be something entirely different. He could be easily mistaken as a young girl, with the youth his face presented.

He then heard footsteps behind him. One was very quick, the sort of sound you make when you are half running, half walking. The other seemed calm, having a great distance from the first footsteps he first heard. He turned and saw Junsu.

“Jaejoong!” Junsu shouted.

“Morning Junsu.” He stopped at his spot and faced Junsu. His left hand rose at the same time Junsu’s did. They did their handshake, something boys their age would not likely do in public.

They laughed after they finished their small ritual when meeting. As they calmed down, Jaejoong spotted Yoochun.

“Who’s that?” he asked.

The smiling Junsu turned around to see who his friend was talking about and saw Yoochun. His smile faded a little.

“He’s nothing. Come, I’d like to show you something.” He grabbed the arm of Jaejoong and dragged him away from Yoochun. Yoochun slyly followed, occasionally acting as if a tourist inside the palace.

Junsu led Jaejoong to various places inside the palace, both trying to have fun and avoiding Yoochun. But it seems that Yoochun has already memorized every path inside his colossal house that Junsu has nowhere to think of going.

Jaejoong’s eyes always caught Yoochun. He was beginning to think that he was going to do something.

They were called out into the garden for an afternoon snack. Jaejoong and Junsu sat in the pavilion, enjoying the breeze and food that was offered to them. Yoochun followed them and walked around the garden, keeping close contact from the pavilion.

As Jaejoong bit off the end of a cookie, his eyes once again found Yoochun, who at this point was examining the flowers that grew within the garden.

“Umm…Junsu?” Jaejoong asked.

Munching on a sandwich, Junsu averted his gaze from the small pond to Jaejoong. As he looked at Jaejoong, he noticed that he was looking at something. Junsu followed his friend’s gaze and came upon Yoochun. He angrily chewed on the piece of sandwich he bit.

Jaejoong looked back at Junsu and asked suspiciously, “Is he...following us?”

“…Yeah. He has to…” Junsu replied quietly.

“Has to?” Jaejoong appeared confused from his friend’s answer.

Junsu thought. He was an exception right? He can tell why he is being guarded by someone he did not like right? He thought and decided he’d tell Jaejoong.

He looked at the maids standing near the pavilion and shooed them away. Jaejoong was sensing something that must be kept secret.

“Let’s see…” Junsu began. Jaejoong’s attention has been caught. He listened intently.

Junsu thought of where to start. “I guess I’ll tell you how I first met that.” He pointed at Yoochun with his index finger. Meanwhile Yoochun was busily watering the garden as he got bored of just looking at it.

Junsu’s retelling of the events was changed to a degree. He left out everything except that he tripped on the way to avoid Yoochun. He did, however, include that Yoochun saved him from falling head first, much to his disappointment.

He then continued on with the part where Yoochun has a role in his life, a role that Junsu did not want him in. As Junsu was telling the events that previously happened to him, the corners of Jaejoong’s mouth began to twitch. He was starting to see where Yoochun comes in.

“Basically, he is my personal bodyguard.” Junsu finished. He looked at Jaejoong for a reaction, getting something he didn’t expect.

“AHAHA!!!” Jaejoong’s eyes began to with water as he was laughing his heart out. As he calmed down, he stared at Junsu’s furious and annoyed face.

“You think this is funny?!” Junsu’s temper rose.

“I’m sorry Junsu. I just thought of something.” Jaejoong apologized.

“And what would that be?”

Jaejoong calmed down enough to tell him straight. “He’s your babysitter.”

Junsu playfully slapped his friend. “HEY! Don’t make fun of this situation. It might get worse you know.”

Jaejoong then realized what his friend meant. It could get a lot worse and he felt ashamed for laughing.

“Hmm…have you thought of using this to your advantage?” Jaejoong asked.

“Hmm? In what way?”

Jaejoong thought. “Like trying to make him suffer, since he can’t leave you. You said yourself that you hated his guts.”

It was Junsu’s turn to laugh. “I already thought of that this morning. All I need are ideas on how to do it.”

Jaejoong grinned. “It was a good day for me to visit then.”

“Your parents took you. You didn’t go out by yourself.”

Jaejoong glared at Junsu. Junsu smirked. “What? It’s true. The day you would likely run away from home to visit someone is the day I ran away from mine. Which is never.”

“I’ll show you...” Jaejoong whispered.

“Hmm?”

“Nothing. Although, I have an idea on how to get started.”

Junsu became interested. “What?”

Jaejoong leaned in and whispered something to Junsu. Junsu’s smile widened.

Junsu and Jaejoong continued to tour the castle. Yoochun secretly tailed them doing his duty to his fullest. He continued to despise the prince’s attitude. He never thanked anyone who helped him and he expected the ones he called to know why he called them. However, among that anger lied pity and care for the prince. Yoochun didn’t know why.

“Are you ready?” Jaejoong whispered. Junsu cleared his throat, the signal that he was indeed ready.

He and Junsu turned to a corner, Yoochun a bit behind them seeing them disappear into the corner. As the two waited for Yoochun to appear near the corner, he and Junsu leaned against the wall. The secret passage gave and Junsu slipped inside the hidden room.

As Yoochun came along the corner, he saw Jaejoong’s back. He was walking alone.

He hurried to meet Jaejoong. “Excuse me, young prince. Where did Prince Junsu left off to?”

Jaejoong’s brow twitched. Yoochun noticed this. He knew Jaejoong was about to lie.

“He said he had to go to his room. I don’t know why though.”

Yoochun smiled. “Thank you Prince Jaejoong. Excuse me.” He turned around and scanned his surroundings. Yoochun was very perceptive and attentive. He checked the ground for possible signs. He noticed a side of the wall. In the middle of the wall stretched a dust line.

‘A secret door.’ Yoochun thought. He realized he stood still far too long. He felt Jaejoong’s eyes bore on his back. He coughed and continued down the hallway, turning into the corner he came in.

Jaejoong thought about Yoochun. ‘Did he notice?’ He thought. He shrugged off his speculations.

Yoochun climbed the staircase leading to the hallway where Junsu’s room can be found. He looked at the guards blocking the doorway. They saw Yoochun and stood aside. Yoochun knocked on the prince’s room.

He waited and heard his knock echo within the room and the hallway. He turned the knob and stepped in. The room was in a clean state. No disturbance whatsoever.

Yoochun sighed. ‘Why must I play hide-and-seek with this kid?’ He turned away and closed the door. The guards resumed their original positions.

Before going down the staircase again, Yoochun backtracked. He went up to the guards a second time.

“Hey guys? What does the prince do when he uses a hidden door?”

The two guards grinned. “He’s doing it again,” one of them said. “He does this to anyone who follows him. It happened to us one time.”

Yoochun smiled. “So how does he do it? Does he know every secret passage?”

“Well, that I don’t know of. Two of the castle maps disappeared one time. We suspect the prince took one.”

Yoochun thought of something. “So does this mean you two know the castle’s secret doors?”

They smiled. “I suspect you are a different kind of guard. One that doesn’t care what happens to him.”

“Course not.” Yoochun replied, chuckling.

“Well, since you are going to keep the prince off our backs for a while, take this.” One of the guards reached into his pockets and pulled a handkerchief.

However, it was not an ordinary handkerchief. In it printed a whole detail of the castle. From the different rooms to the different doors. Some led from one side of the castle to another. Others went all the way to the forest near the castle. Yoochun held the cloth and studied it.

He tried to locate the area where Junsu disappeared all of a sudden. He followed the secret wall all the way into its intended destination. He neatly folded the map and placed it in his pocket.

“Thanks guys. This will help.” He bowed to the guards.

“No problem. It’s not use who’s going to be in the receiving end when they embarrass the prince.”

Junsu grinned. “No worries. I can take him” He went down the stairs and turned into the wall. Not just a wall, but a hidden wall. He was going to give Junsu a surprise.

Jaejoong and Junsu meet up in the middle of the castle, where the Zen garden was located. They were laughing at the joke they just did. They knew Yoochun would be in a panic shock right now looking for the prince that was never lost.

“…I kind of feel sorry for him a bit though.” Jaejoong confessed.

Junsu laughed. “Yeah right, I don’t like some annoying guard following my every move.”

Jaejoong looked at Junsu. “Well it is his job, so I guess it’s not his fault.”

Junsu looked back. “Whose side are you on anyways?”

“Yours, but I just feel that it was wrong to make his job as harder as it already is.”

Junsu stood up and snapped his fingers. A maid quickly came by his side. “Get me something to drink.”

“What would you…” She lost her voice as she felt the gaze of Junsu pierce her. She turned and ran to the kitchen.

Jaejoong chuckled. “You know, besides torturing that guard of yours, you should be nicer to your servants. They don’t always know everything that you want, you know.”

Junsu turned. “Shut up. First you say I was too mean to the guard, which was your idea, and now you say I should be nicer?

Jaejoong smiled. “Well for the first part, I feel bad and as for the second, I’m merely saying a suggestion based on my observations.”

Junsu sat back down and pouted. The maid he called for came back with a tray. On the tray was a golden vase and two silver goblets. The maid set the tray down on the table between Jaejoong and Junsu. She began pouring juice into each of the cups. She set the vase down and bowed away.

Junsu stood up and she stopped in her tracks. She was waiting for the hit that was to come, but instead a cloth was thrown at her.

“Thanks.” Junsu replied and sat back down. Somehow Junsu felt weird saying those words.

Jaejoong laughed. “Now was that hard?”

Junsu glared at Jaejoong. “Shut up Jaejoong.”

Another maid walked up to them. “Excuse me young princes, but Queen Yejin has called for Prince Jaejoong.”

“I guess it’s time to go back now.” Jaejoong sighed.

Junsu and Jaejoong stood up and walked off the stone garden.

Jaejoong sighed. “I’ll be bored once again. I don’t like the other snob royalties around us.”

“You’ll get used to it. I mean I did. I hang with you don’t I?”

Jaejoong playfully punched Junsu. “Shut up. Anyways, be nice to your servants and that guard. It’s their job to do things for you. I bet if they had the energy to not follow you, they wouldn’t.”

Junsu stuck his tongue out. “Bye Jaejoong.”

“See ya around Junsu.” Jaejoong walked away.

Junsu climbed the grand staircase and went to the balcony. He didn’t notice Yoochun standing by the side, hidden behind a door. He leaned out against the rail and took in the fresh hair.

He closed his eyes and thought to himself. Meanwhile, Yoochun slipped out of the hidden door and leaned against the frame of the open door.

Junsu laughed quietly. “I bet that Yoochun lost his mind trying to look for me.”

“No. Not really.” Yoochun said.

Junsu turned around fast. He saw Yoochun chuckling near the door frame. “How’d you find me?”

Yoochun grinned. “A guard’s intuition. Want some?”

Junsu turned away. “No thanks. I don’t need some idiot’s mind contaminating mine.”

He heard Yoochun’s footsteps come towards him then he heard it beside him. He saw Yoochun a few feet away also leaning against the railing.

“Is this where you go think a lot or you just stumbled into it?”

“That’s none of your business is it?” Junsu said. An aura of awkwardness enveloped the two.

The wind picked up a bit. It seemed mysterious for the wind to be acting up. Yoochun’s nose picked up a smell. ‘Is that…gas?’

Yoochun ignored the smell and proceeded to talk to the prince.

“You should go rest now young prince. Tomorrow’s another day.”

Junsu couldn’t help, but agree. He did feel a bit drowsy from trying to avoid Yoochun all day.

“Fine. But don’t you dare step into my room while I’m asleep.” He threatened.

“Fine. Agreed. Good night.” The simple answers irked Junsu. He walked off the balcony and headed towards his room. He closed the door of the room after sending the maids out and lay down on his bed. The curtains brought night to his room faster so his eyes began to droop. A few more moments, he was fast asleep.

A horn blew all around the kingdom. It echoed even through the castle. Yoochun banged on the door of the prince’s room before it finally opened. Behind him, soldiers and workers of all kind were rushing pat each other.

“Prince! Prince Junsu! Wake up!” Yoochun yelled.

“What is that sound?” Junsu asked.

“It is the sound of an invasion” Yoochun pulled Junsu out of bed.

“Let go of me!” Junsu struggled from Yoochun’s strong grip. He was too groggy to hear what Yoochun said about the horn.

“No. Prince Junsu, that horn you hear is the sound of an invasion. I promised the King and Queen I would protect you more than my life and the day has come where my protection is much needed. Now follow me.”

The whole explanation then hit Junsu.

“But what about my family? What about my sister?” Junsu yelled.

Yoochun hesitated. Junsu was right. However, he promised he would protect Junsu more.

“I was ordered to protect you at all cost. They wouldn’t dare hurt them without you. Now follow me.”

They ran down the hallway. A rushing sound came from behind them. Yoochun pushed Junsu against the wall. A barrage of arrows narrowly missed them. It seems that some of the enemies managed to climb over the balcony. Now that they have seen the prince, nothing can stop them from pursuing him.

“GET THEM!” yelled one of the opponents.

Yoochun thought quickly. He pushed the wall in front of them, remembering that it was a hidden wall.

He pulled Junsu towards a passage behind the wall. They went in. The moment the wall closed behind them, they heard the thuds of footsteps. They then felt the giant door of the castle open with a shake. The enemies have reached the front of the castle.

Junsu and Yoochun never stopped running. Yoochun read the map well and remembered this was a passage that led to the forest. He was wishing it was not going to lead them straight to the invading forces.

Junsu stopped in his tracks. “Wait! If they want me, why can’t I just give myself up?”

“Because if you stayed and get yourself caught, they will eventually kill your family too.”

“What makes you think that?”

Yoochun sighed. “Didn’t you understand what you father said?”

“He said that they targeted you, which means they do not only plan to kidnap you, but also kill you. You are the next in line for the throne. If they can stop you, they can kill the rest of your family and take the kingdom for themselves.”

Junsu then understood a bit of the situation.

They ran deeper and deeper beneath the castle. Gas lamps filled the way of the tunnel. A few minutes and they reached the end. Above them was a trapdoor.

“Stay still down here.” Yoochun climbed and opened the trapdoor. In came a bit of dirt and leaves. He peered through the small opening to see if it was clear.

He heard the snap of a twig. Someone was near them, but he couldn’t see. However, he had to risk it, in case the others back at the castle found out where they entered.

He came down and picked Junsu up. He let the prince go first.

As they got out, they looked behind them. Part of the castle was in flames, the fiery sparks noticeable.

“Is this what my father was talking about?” Fear clouded Junsu’s eyes.

Yoochun felt sorry for the prince. His hand extended, but he realized it and put it down.

Yoochun heard a snap of branches behind him. He pulled Junsu away from an arrow that could have hit the prince. Yoochun was unprepared. He had no weapons with him, or armor.

“Come out come out wherever you are.” The soldier teased the pair.

He pulled Junsu behind a tree. He looked carefully and noticed an enemy soldier had spotted them. He made Junsu sit down.

He whispered to Junsu’s ear, “Stay here and keep down.”

Yoochun ran to the next tree. The enemy who saw them did not notice Yoochun. He crept forward looking for his targets. Yoochun appeared from behind and kicked the bow. The bow snapped in half. Seeing that his only weapon left was his sword, the enemy tried to grab it. Yoochun was quick and kicked the sword on the enemy’s belt. It broke away.

They began fighting with their bare fists. Punch after punch, Yoochun blocked it all. However, an explosion near the castle distracted him for a second, the enemy sending a blow to his face. Yoochun retaliated and kicked the enemy’s stomach as hard as he could. The enemy fell back and choked.

He looked to his side to notice the sword. He picked it up and swung it at Yoochun as he came near. It missed Yoochun by a few inches. Yoochun once again kicked the sword and it flew and stuck to a tree. The fist fight continued on, neither one gaining an advantage.

Just then, a small tip of an arrow hit the side of the enemy’s face. He staggered and Yoochun was given the chance to continuously punch him. As the enemy fell down, Yoochun’s eyes saw the glint of the sword stuck to the tree. He quickly grabbed it, and as the soldier tried to stand back up again, Yoochun slit his throat.

Junsu was watching the whole incident the whole time. He helped Yoochun get an advantage. He saw the fury within Yoochun’s eyes, but also a sense of safety among it.

Yoochun grabbed the soldier’s belt and wore it. He re-sheathed the sword.

“Prince Junsu, come.” He pulled the prince up and ran.

“What will happen if someone sees us again? Will I get hurt?” Junsu was worried.

Yoochun replied as they were running, “No one will touch you as long as I am here. It is my duty to protect you.”
