When did music become the cause for every negative effect? Modern music, that is.
I mean, I never did hear of Bach's music being accused of causing a teen to start using cocaine. If so, fuck me. Let me hit that shit up, Bach.
Harris & Kleboid shoot up Columbine, the media's first accusations were their musical influence & video games. Possibilities, but what about the rest of the possible outcomes? The US dropped more bombs that year on Iraq than ever before. Or the fact it was Adolf Hitler's birthday, or the anniversary of the Oklahoma City Bombings. Whether or not it was the intended dates, but it happened. Music was the first accusation.
Can music cause lethargy as well? I've never heard a song that in all honesty made me just want to sit on my ass. I don't mean the fasiciously made songs.
Perhaps if music can be the cause for negativity, it can be used for reinforcement? It must be able to, considering it can cause such destruction on a mass level, by common perception. I realize certain genres, levels, and lyrics of music can influence behavior and “emotions,” so certainly one could punish or reinforce behavior with music. An intervention could be done using more “upbeat” music to deflect negative behaviors, and for those who are more sadistic, the opposite.
This could possibly be even used for toddlers! No toddler (usually, of course) wants to hear death metal. So, when they go near the glass vase that mommy loves so dearly after the 1,000th time of hearing “no”, just play some death metal. If it is aversive, the little tyke won’t go near that vase so often. No, no.
I'm straying off topic. I'm writing my reflection on my Behavior Psych class.. It's my final paper. I went off on a rant. & I thought I'd share some of it. Yeah, I did really say about doing drugs with Bach. Hahahah. I'm going to eat & then go for a run.
