just another manic Monday...

our Easter tea party was a huge success. everyone loved the food; cucumber&creamcheese and watercress&cheddar finger sandwiches, plain and cinnamon scones, crumpets, sausage rolls, apple cake, and trifle, all homemade. our friends all enjoyed each other's company, the kids (and grownups) loved the Easter egg hunt, and we found most of the eggs (the Easter Bunny only hid plastic, candy-filled ones and foiled-wrapped chocolate ones, so the ones we didn't find will be safe enough). we've got tons of leftovers (I'm having leftover trifle now, yum!) and the mess was small and readily cleaned up. we'll definitely have to do this again. thanks everyone for coming and sharing with us.

in other news, the Orthodox are the most hardcore Christians ever; a four hour midnight Easter service, done standing THE ENTIRE TIME, with lots of joyful shouting (in a virtual Babel of languages) and a feast of meat and alcohol afterwards that lasts past sunrise (we left early, while the old Russian ladies were still passing out the customary three shots of vodka). it was beautiful and interesting and moving, welcoming and communal even for a polytheistic pagan. I may even do it again next year, provided I succeed in getting myself and my back in better shape.

tomorrow I start the new job, so I shall head bedwards now.
