Summary The rockstar and the tough cookie... fighting will ensue.
I breathed in deeply, inhaling the scent of the bar, an intoxicating mix of cigarette smoke and alcohol. A smile spread across my lips, apart from playing guitar, there was no where else I’d rather be. Someone knocked my elbow and I turned to see Brian laughing at me. He tipped his head towards the bar.
“Come on Zacky, let’s get some beers. Everyone else is already over there.”
Grinning broadly I headed over towards the bar, Brian following close behind. As we reached it Jimmy slid two beers towards us, gesturing with his head towards the two empty barstools.
“About time you two got over here. Johnny and I were just about to have your beers.” He laughed.
Laughing along I lifted my glass to my lips, turning on my stool to scan the bar for talent. My eyes passed over countless pretty blondes and brunettes with curves that spilled out of their clothes. It was the same night in, night out. No doubt I’d be taking one of them back with me, no complaints from me there, but just one I’d like to see something a bit different. That’s when she caught my eye.
I couldn’t say why my gaze finally rested on her. She wasn’t stunningly gorgeous, in fact she was quite plain, and from what I could see under her baggy wife beater she had a boyish figure. She was the kind of girl I wouldn’t normally look at twice, but here I was entranced. There was just something about her that caught my attention.
“See anything you like?” Brian teased.
“Of course he sees something he likes. If it has breasts and a pulse Zacky will like it.” Matt laughed, finishing his beer and resting it on the bar.
I scowled at him, flipping him the finger.
“Oh come on Zack, you were checking someone out. Who was it?”
I shook my head, knowing that if they saw who I was looking at I’d never live it down.
“No one really, just scanning for talent.” I shrugged.
“He was checking out the chick with the hawk.” Johnny pointed out.
I made a quick mental note to start advertising for a new bassist. The damage had already been done; the guys were all leaning over and looking at this girl. Jimmy smirked slightly, leaning back in his seat.
“Not your usual type Baker. You feeling alright?” He laughed.
I groaned and lowered my eyes, glaring at anyone in a close radius. Brain chuckled, slapping me on the back.
“Oh come on Zack, she isn’t exactly Holly… or any of the other girls you’ve brought back with you before.” He grinned.
By now even the bartender was getting involved.
“You boys on about Alex?” He asked.
“Kid with the messy red mohawk?” Matt asked.
“Yeah that’s her. I’d be careful if I were you kid, she takes home a different boy every night.” He chuckled. “And she’s got an attitude on her, just you watch.”
We all watched as she snapped at some girl who tried to push past her. The girl’s boyfriend stepped forwards to defend her and Alex paused for a moment, eyeing him up, then she gave him lip as well. The guy squared up to her and I could sense the guys beside me tensing up, none of us would stand to see someone hitting a girl, even a girl like that. But she merely glared at him and the guy stepped back, letting her pass. She sneered at him, walking confidently towards the bar.
Brian chuckled and looked at me. “She reminds me of a pit bull my friend used to have.”
“Oh thanks.”
“No. I mean, that dog was awesome. It growled and barked at anyone that got too close but it only bit people who deserved it. I figure she’s a bit like that.” He explained.
I nodded and smiled, but really I had no idea what the hell he was on about and sat there staring at my beer trying to figure it out.
She stopped a few feet down from where we were sat and ordered double jack, which she downed on the spot before ordering another. The bartender merely laughed handing her two ‘on the house’. Brian gave me a gentle shove.
“Now’s your chance Zacky boy, go get her.”
I turned and arched an eyebrow at him.
“You make it sound like I’m a fourteen year old trying this for the first time.” I scoffed. “Give me some credit.”
“Alright, just go.” He snorted.
I smirked, standing up and heading down the bar to sit next to her. She tilted her head slightly, glancing at me before looking away.
“Hey.” I smirked.
She said nothing, just sat up a little straighter and turned in her seat.
“If you’re looking for a quick fuck I suggest you go somewhere else. You’ll have to buy me a couple of drinks before I screw you.” She chuckled, downing the last of her jack. “And look, I’m all out.”
I smiled, ordering four new glasses. Two for her, two for me.
“And look, I just ordered a couple of drinks.”
She arched her eyebrows, resting her hand lightly on the counter. Her eyes scanned up and down my figure, almost judging me. I shot her a questioning look and she nodded, muddy brown eyes finally looking into mine.
“You’ll do. Oh yeah, the name’s Alex. You better remember it, I can promise you you’ll be screaming later.”
“I’m not the screaming type.” I snorted.
“I don’t know, you look like you have a good pair of lungs on you.” She replied confidently. “Got a name as well?”
“Zacky.”
She smiled. “Nice. I’ll try and remember it.”
“You’ll need to.”
She laughed, lifting her glass to her lips. Just as she set it down on the counter a girl tapped her on the shoulder, stealing her attention from me.
She turned on her stool and eyed the girl coolly. I scanned over her as well. She was pretty, certainly prettier than Alex and with a figure most girls would kill for. She also looked angry as hell.
“I hear you’re the bitch who fucked my boyfriend.” She seethed.
Alex was unperturbed. “I don’t know. What was his name? I’ve heard so many guys moaning mine it’s hard to keep track.”
“Mark.” The girl hissed, brushing a few black and blonde strands away from her face.
“Ooh Mark… yeah, I’d suggest you look for a new boyfriend sweetie. He was a lousy fuck.”
She turned back towards me, completely blanking the blonde beside her. A split second later there was a loud crack and Alex lifted her hand to a fast forming red mark on her cheek. She lowered her hand slowly, blowing air through her nostrils slowly. Everything seemed to move in slow motion as she got down from her stool, balling one hand into a fist. Moments later the blonde was on the floor clutching her nose and Alex was rubbing her fist.
“I say we get out of here soon.” She grinned. “Chicks like that usually have someone with them to protect them and even though Ray is never going to bar me from here, I’d rather not get kicked out again.”
I nodded in shock, staring at the girl who was trying to stem a flow of blood from her nose. Alex had grabbed my hand and was dragging me towards the door.
“See you tomorrow Ray!” She grinned, waving over her shoulder at the bartender who just shook his head.
People were starting to flock towards the blonde and it was getting harder to push our way out towards the door. I grimaced as a large guy stepped in front of the door.
“No one hits my girlfriend and gets away with it.” He growled.
“Oh Mark… really. It was a one night stand thing. No use trying to get me back now.”
The guy raised his fists and I glowered at him, balling my own hands. He was distracted momentarily and Alex ducked under his arms and out of the door. She paused for a moment in the alleyway, winking at me.
“Oh and Mark? You were a lousy fuck.” She laughed, wheeling and disappearing down the street.
I ducked and followed, waiting for the guy to realise what had just happened and try to catch up. Alex walked fast and I had to almost jog to keep up with her. Pretty soon heavy footsteps echoed out behind us. Alex must have heard them because she grabbed my arm, tugging me into an abandoned warehouse and shutting the door behind us.
No sooner were we in there than she gasped my shoulders forcefully, crashing her lips into mine. After a stunned second I started kissing back, running my hands down her back to rest on her hips. Eventually she pulled away and I barely suppressed the needy moan that rose in my throat. My eyes were fixed on her lips, slightly swollen and pink from kissing. They twitched into a smile and she regarded me coolly.
“So…your place or mine?”
