so, i don't know about you guys, but i've been looking for years for deodorant that's not full of scary, cancer-causing ingredients. i've tried many commercially available natural deodorants, none of which, well, work.

i found this recipe for homemade deodorant online at one of my new favorite blogs. and since i've take the week off to recover ( Read more... )

I've been shampoo and face wash free for months.
It rules.

do you just use water?

i've definintely been interested in trying this...but with my crazy frizzy curly out-of-control hair and tendency to break out...i'd be hesitant.

No, for my hair I usually use a combination of baking soda, white vinegar, tea or apple cider vinegar. It changes depending on what my hair is doing. There's a community called no_poo and the posts are tagged by hair type so I imagine you may be able to find something suitable for your hair. I know that some people you soap-like bars, or shampoo without 'cones' but I'm not very knowledgeable about that stuff ( ... )

cool. thanks for the tips.

just this week i've been checking out the ingredients on most of the products i've been using for the past ten years or so, and i've been shocked. i've been doing some research on substitutes, and i'm contemplating a couple of shampoo bars (from here: http://www.chagrinvalleysoapandcraft.com).

i've heard of ocm but never tried it. i've been using jojoba oil as a moisturizer for awhile now, and it's made a huge difference for me. but i'm wary of giving up chemical acne products entirely- i had problems for so many years and they've only recently started to go away.

If you already have jojoba on hand you might want to try using that as a cleanser on it's own. Or using EVOO instead of grapeseed oil, I don't know, it's your call. If you've had problem skin for years and it's only starting to clear up now, it may have more to do with your age and less to do with the products you're using... Unless you've recently started using something in particular and that's what seems to be helping. I completely understand your hesitance because I initially thought the whole things sounded antithetical. At very least, read through some of the posts - they're tagged by skin type and/or problems - and see if some of your concerns aren't addressed. Of everything I've tried, and I feel like I've tried it all, OCM has been the biggest help.
