That law about sagging pants is ridiculous.

It especially bothered me how sexist it was. There would never be a law that prevented women from showing too much cleavage or something (not that I think there should be). And I mean, when I walk around in yoga pants, you can see the shape of my ass way better than you can with a boy's baggy boxers, but I would certainly never get arrested for that. But I guess people think men need to look more "respectable" or something. idiots.

Btw, I really love your LJ icon!

That's pretty much exactly what a friend said when I was talking to her about it - but her idea was more that - mostly men make the laws, men like to look at tight pants on women/cleavage, so the cleavage stays. I agree for the most part, but I also think it's largely about discouraging hip hop culture.

(Thanks =)

In other countries, especially predominantly muslim countries, sure. But here? Nah. As long as you're not exposing nipples or a completely naked bottom, you're fine. And even if you do it's not that big of a deal- just look at Britney Spears.

i could see it in the same kind of bible-belt places that some of these anti-sagging laws are happening. the same kinds of places that are outlawing cohabitation outside of marriage and starting government-funded abstinence education for ADULTS in their 20s and 30s.

...but really, isn't "sagging" more of a 90's problem anyway? who does that anymore? here and now, i'd say our pressing jeans- related obscenity concern is the ultratight ones that show off the whole deal, david-bowie-in-labyrinth style.

Yeah, totally...I definitely kept thinking, "who does that anymore?" when reading the article.

But as you mentioned earlier, a lot of places in this country haven't quite caught up to us in new york.
