career opportunities, the one that never knocked

so far i've spent today hard at work. in my bathrobe.

- sent 6 job emails (either about jobs directly or asking advice about job-getting strategies from those with more experience)
- read new scenes for reshoots from last summer's feature and made notes for the directors
- overhauled both my film and miscellaneous resumes
- signed up for email newletters from the mayor's office for film and tv, the brooklyn international film festival, rooftop films, and tribeca
- checked out the big 3 (mandy, craigslist and shooting people) for job listings and looked into a few more sites
- found several lists of production companies currently in pre-production

and maybe something else.

i've been feeling a little down on myself and my job prospects recently
cause 1) all the work i've been offered recently has been no- or very-low paid
2) people i know seem to be working but not calling me

it's gotten to the point recently where i'm starting to think about getting a part-time retail job.
at least next month when i won't be subbing anymore.
and while i wouldn't totally hate some kind of brainless job a few days a week with actual steady income...it feels like admitting defeat.

if i end up having to do that, though, i could take a class or do an internship or something.
it wouldn't be the end of the world.

although it was pretty humbling to see that the unpaid internship that suddenly looked good to me was posted by a friend of mine
one i've worked with plenty and even gotten a job once
the fact that she's in a position to have me working for her...and for free...well.

i guess i ought to suck it up.
